Sorry to give a poor review as I really wanted this to work.
Had to return this item.Connected it using USB-C to a newish Windows 10 machine, running plugged into power, not on battery to avoid possible power issues, as this draws its power from the single USB connection.Had problems.a) reading Blu Ray disks - some played OK, but others just powered up for a few seconds, then the drive powered itself down without even registering there was a disk inserted.b) intermittent problems playing DVD's - using both VLC and the recommended LEAWO software. Play would stutter and pause. All disks are either the correct region for me, or region free, so that isn't the cause.Should add that all these disks work perfectly in my normal and quite old Pioneer Blu-ray player, so don't think the disks are at fault.I thought I may have received a faulty item, but there are several other reviewers on Amazon.com who experienced similar problems.Didn't attempt to wite to any disks as there would have been no point.Unit itself is quite nicely made and finished - and comes with a very nice carry case. Shame it doesn't work reliably.Recommend you read the reviews on Amazon.com before buying. Wish I had.Never returned anything from Amazon before, but they made it very simple and refunded very promptly. Can't fault them on that.

BD external drive didn't work for me
Unfortunately, even though I felt I had done my research (esp that I didn't have a 'C' type USB port or 2xUSB side by side on my Ezbook laptop), this Nolyth BD external drive didn't work for me. However, I *cannot fault* the Confoly Customer service, as they gave lots of advice on the BD drive before and after purchase, and then sent me a standard dvd drive as a replacement, which, after some initial guidance, worked fine for both dvd and cd playing (I haven't yet tried burning either type). Confoly then refunded the difference between the two external drives. 4 stars NOT for the initial product, but for the customer service.

Buyer question : "all regions ?" Seller answer : "yes". NOT TRUE
I bought this because one of the buyers' question was : "Is this a multi-region disc player that will play discs from all regions?" The seller's answer was : "yes,it can".This is NOT TRUE.When you take the drive into use you have to choose which region's disks you want to play.Your selection is then set, just like most other players. Also, as usual, you can change it 4 times. This makes it just an ordinary player, and not the reason I bought THIS one for.Granted, it is a very nice looking unit and has good specs.Unfortunately, it is going back.

Easy All-In-One Optical Solution
Like most laptops nowadays mine didn't come with an optical drive and I needed a simple plug and play future proof writer drive for all the cd/dvd/blu-ray formats and this fit the bill perfectly. Bought on sale it was easily the cheapest by about £15-20 and has usb-c as well as normal usb 3.0 connectivity through an included adapter. The protective case that came with it does the job and seems made of decent materials. Although this does NOT come with any software suite to burn or play any of the disc types you can easily find and download what you need online for free, or purchase your own software if you need to. The drive is recognised and can be plugged in and disconnected without any issues in windows 10, and gets recognised as a MacBook Air SuperDrive so I assume it would work fine in MacOS too.I could easily have saved some money and bought a CD/DVD burner that is a Blu-Ray player but at this price I decided to go the whole hog in case I needed to make use of its 100GB rewritable triple layer blu ray technology at some point in the future when the discs become cheaper.
