Based loosely on Joseph Conrad's "The Heart Of Darkness," Coppola's Vietnam epic follows Sheen up the Mekong River into Cambodia to find Brando, an officer who has gone mad in the jungle and is running his own empire. Review: Nice - Very good film. Review: Must watch - This movie is a must watch for any film enthisiast. And would recommend this version over Redux, as this has more minutes.

Thanks a lot for this I mean I have been searching for Apocalypse now blu ray for about 10 years and finally got it delivered in the new year. Excellent movie and a brilliant audio and video blu ray transfer.

better than original much clearer development to film with shots of French plantation, as well as sounds at end of weapons dropping when we then realize that the main character need not even consider going back to the US where he would most likely has been trapped and would have to consider replacing the man he just killed as some sort of god figure and live with the natives. Instead the dropping of weapons symbolizes the end to killing and we can consider that he escape to the French plantation and stay there rather than return to a make believe existence where the USA culture must be transplanted to wherever US soldiers go. Because that is what crazy really is and leads to such things as surfing in gunfire situations or having Playboy Bunnies entertain in a jungle. It is like pretending they are not really there in Vietnam. Marlin Brando's character was trapped and saw his role was he had to adapt and be a part of the place he was in to actually win over the people ( he must become a warlord rejected by his own country to win for them, this is well done and still he looks at photo references still the only connection for him to the US.) The photographer relays this to us in his disjointed way of talking but still it is there. Excellent remake of movie.

This is exactly the collection that I've been hoping to find for years. Finally, it's available on Blu-Ray, but perhaps more importantly it includes both the original theatrical version of Apocalypse Now that's extremely hard to find on DVD, plus Apocalypse Now Redux, which is the longer version with additional scenes that were cut from the theatrical release. And that's just on the first disc! Disc 2 is packed with extras, including interviews with Francis Ford Coppolla and John Milius, looking back at the film from thirty or so years later, plus the original radio broadcast version of Orson Welles's reading of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness." As if that's not enough, Disc 3 contains "Hearts of Darkness", the documentary of the making of the film, as it was being made, filmed and narrated by his wife Eleanor. It's the most powerful account I've seen of the difficulties involved in the making of a film. The stories of the problems with Martin Sheen's health and Marlon Brando's attitude, as well as the problems dealing with the Phillipine army are all covered in detail. After watching this feature length documentary, you'll wonder how the film was ever finished. Altogether, it's probably the best boxed set collection ever released, and at the price it's actually a bargain compared to just buying the three films individually on DVD. I highly recommend it, and surely is a must-have for any serious film buff.
