Not on this gooseneck. The end that connects with the clamp has a slip on locking connector. There may be a different manufacturer that would allow that to happen or possibly a longer gooseneck is available.

Can this be used in a car (on a steering wheel, for instance) if I need to record in a pinch (in the car)?

If the thickness of your steering wheel is less than an inch in diameter (and you’re not driving of course), yes it should fit on your steering wheel.
