Good for Woodshop
This great for the wood shop. I can usually add the fractions in my head but once in a while it's nice to double check with a calculator. Take s a little getting use to the extra button pushes to actually add or subtract to mixed values. And there is a feature you have to setup so you can the results as a mixed value, but it does work quite well. Big enough for me to use out my glasses.

If you're studying or working with fractions...
If you are studying or working extensively with fractions, this calculator is about the best choice from what's currently available. It has a nice sized display, and fractions are shown as they actually appear in textbooks. Yes, other calculators from Casio and Texas instruments, etc. can do the same thing, but the fx-55 Plus has a clean, colorful keypad, and there's a row of keys (in green) specifically dedicated to working with fractions, so if someone is learning the ropes with fractions, it's less intimidating than more versatile calculators. The other thing I like about this calculator (and most Casio LCD calculators) is that it's easy to adjust the display contrast. So if fractions are your main bag, this calculator is worth the investment. :)

Really great calculator. It's easy to use for this 66 year old.
I really like this calculator. It has just what I need. I don't have to take a college class to figure out how to use it. The numbers are big and it's easy to use.

It Works Just Fine
I purchased this calculator because I wanted one to figure fractions for sewing pattern drafting/grading purposes. There is an outstanding fraction calculator available free on-line, but I wanted one that I could move around with and did not require a computer to function. So, after looking around I settled on this one based on the fact that it said it would calculate fractions, and the price was fair. The shipping was quick. The calculator does require you to 'set it up' to perform the function you desire it to do for you. In this case, reduced fractions. I would say the instruction booklet left a bit to be desired, but the calculator keys were intuitive, so it was fairly simply to fill in the gaps left by the 'instructions.' After about 15 minutes of playing with it, I found the combination I wanted and reduced fractions were being displayed on the screen. The data strokes required to get the numbers into the calculator is minimal and easy to remember, the display is clean, crisp and easy to read. Bottom line - if you want a nice sized calculator, easy to read display and somewhat intuitive data entry, this Casio will do the job just fine. I am very pleased with the fraction function and it is now a permanent part of my workroom!
