Best medicated shampoo I've ever tried
I've had scalp issues since I was a kid, I've tried over 10 different medicated shampoos over the years and found T-Gel to be the best. Not thrilled by the smell, but its not a problem given that if fixes my scalp issues.

Great Product! (If you are worried about dryness, I've put some tips that worked for me at the bottom of the review.)
My Story: I have relaxed hair that is about midback length and my scalp had never really given me any problems. UNTIL THIS PAST SUMMER THAT IS. I went from having pretty much no scalp irritation to having an extremely itchy and flaky scalp. I'm still not sure what triggered the issue, but my mom does have seborrheic dermatitis so maybe it finally kicked in for me. ANYWAY, my scalp had gotten to the point where I was afraid to touch my hair in public, lest some flakes loosen themselves and I spent my first month of school wearing my hair pinned up (after being carefully arranged and inspected for visible flakes at home). As you can expect, this grew old very quickly. So I started searching for a solution and I stumbled upon the review page for this product. I was kind of worried about my hair drying out, but I couldn't deal with my scalp situation for much longer so I went ahead and ordered. Now, to further emphasize how uncomfortable my scalp was, I need you to understand something. I only wash my hair once a week during the weekends because it takes a couple of hours to wash/condition/dry and I'm swamped with school/work during the week. BUT my scalp was so uncomfortable that I ended up washing my hair shortly after the shampoo arrived in the middle of the week. That's how serious it was. AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT. While I was washing my hair, I felt the shampoo tingling against my irritated scalp during the first wash. After gently scrubbing my scalp (note that I said my scalp, not my hair-I will explain this later) for the first round of shampooing, I applied a second round of shampoo to my scalp and left it on for a few minutes before rinsing and applying a moisturizing shampoo & conditioner. It has been almost a week and my scalp feels amazing. I have pretty much no flakes (I've seen maybe two small ones? and I think they were just random remnants that got lost in my hair) and my scalp is itchy no longer. Plus I CAN WEAR MY HAIR DOWN AGAIN.Summary:If you are tired of dealing with scalp issues, I definitely recommend that you give this a try. Based off of how much I used, I imagine that the bottle will last me 2-3 months (with 1 wash/week).If you are worried about your hair being dry after using this here are some tips-1) Don't apply this shampoo to the length of your hair. Inevitably, there will be some run off when you are rinsing, but during your actual application try to concentrate on putting the T-gel on your scalp. When I was done with my two rounds of the T-gel, I did one wash with my regular moisturizing sulfate-free shampoo that I applied to the length of my hair.2) Make sure you use a good conditioner with this product. I used my usual Motions Herbal Fortifying Conditioner and I left it in for between 30 to 40 minutes like I usually do.After these these steps, I went through my regular routine (leave-ins etc.) and I experienced no dryness. The smell of the t-gel is almost like a spicy herbal smell, but it was tamed by my conditioners.

worked for flaking, not as much itching
I'd been struggling with a desperately itchy scalp, and bits of skin flaking off when I scratched (no dandruff though) for around a year or so. Head and Shoulders wasn't doing anything, so after doing some research I picked out this shampoo to try. After maybe only two washes my scalp stopped flaking entirely, which was great. And it did soothe the itchiness somewhat, but didn't make it go away for good - I'd still get itchy again within a few hours. Ended up going to the doctor and getting prescription shampoo and it worked like a charm for the itchiness. I'd suggest giving this shampoo a go, it might work for you, but if symptoms persist, go to your doctor or dermatologist. The cost if insurance doesn't cover it all is annoying, but the peace of mind is worth it.Yes, the shampoo does smell like rubber. Yes, it's pretty strong. But like other reviewers have said, the smell doesn't linger in your hair, so you yourself won't smell rubbery post-shower.

Beloved But Discontinued — Found a Great New Substitute for My Boyfriend’s Scalp
My boyfriend has relied on Neutrogena T/Gel Anti-Dandruff Shampoo for years to manage his scalp psoriasis—but it was recently discontinued (especially in the UK/Ireland), and Neutrogena hasn’t given a clear reason other than “commercial factors”.It took a minute to find a replacement, thank god for Amazon Basics Therapeutic Plus Coal-Tar Shampoo 0.5% Coal Tar (16 fl oz), it’s been a lifesaver—it works just as well as the Neutrogena formula at controlling flakiness and itching.

Works great on dry, itchy, scaly scalp!
I suffer with a flaky scalp. I have tried everything you can imagine and nothing helps or is consistent. This is my go to shampoo when my scalp is flaky. It has helped so much that my scalp is not as flaky as it once was. I see a lot of people do not like the smell which is understandable. It doesn’t bother me too much and isn’t so overpowering that I can’t get through my washes. I would say use your regular shampoo as well afterwards to help ease the smell. Overall this is a great product and it is worth the price.

Dr's Rx - Best OTC shampoo for dandruff
A dermatologist recommended this, and I've been using it off and on for years ever since. The only thing that has changed is the fragrance - it is stronger than ever, but the tar is now somewhat masked by heavier fragrance. This is not a complaint, though. Just a fact worth noting; the fragrance definitely lingers long after my hair is dry. There are better scents out there, but T-Gel is so effective that it is forgivable. When the itching and flaking flare up I'll use this as my only shampoo for 2-3 weeks. I wash my hair about every other day, lest this stuff turn my hair to straw. It is very concentrated, so I use only a conservative amount (less than a silver dollar) and really work it into my scalp - think vigorous scrubbing with fingernails. Leave it on a few minutes, rinse, and then repeat once more. The relief and reduction in flakes and itching are immediate. Also, even though my scalp is on the oily side, I always use a very strong conditioner (I swear by L'Oréal's Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture) on the ends ONLY and leave it on for a good couple minutes before rinsing. With T/Gel shampoo, a conditioner is a must, especially for long hair.I've tried Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, Kerastase Dandruff, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree...you name it. They all smell lovely, but none of them come close in efficacy to T/Gel.Can't live without this.
