The Rules: A Guide For People Owned By Cats Paperback – November 12, 2008

Loved the idea of the Rules. My cats (one at a time) loved to read, so when anyone was reading a book or a paper there was the cat sitting in the middle of the printed word. Loved the idea of toys, food feeding times, and much of the rest. RULE #1: Cat owns the house and the humans in it. For anyone who owns, or wants to own, a cat. Mr Thompson is a great translator for our cats.

I really enjoyed the first part of the book and the drawings really added to the fun ! It is a must read for a cat lover, it felt like it was written about my own cat and had me in stitches :-) I was sorry not to find find the same lightheartedness "answer to the readers" section .

What a hysterical book. I'll have to hide this from my cat, Alex. It would give him to many good ideas and he had already done some of these tidbits. LOL.,I laughed so hard when I read about Max turning the light switches on and off. When Alex was a kitten, he loved to scare me after we had gone to bed by turning on the lights in my bedroom at 3am. He had figured out that it was great fun scare me. The first time it scared the s*** out of me! LOL He stopped after the third time that I threw a slipper at him. I guess it wasn't so fun after all. "With a wicked laugh "I highly recommend this book. When I am waiting at the doctors, I pull out my Kindle for a good giggle.

I couldn't help but burst out laughing......any cat's pet person will laugh REALLY loud when they recognize their own experiences with their cats. YOU WON'T HELP BUT BELLY LAUGH!!!!! This sure was a contagiously funny book from a cat's perspective. I had tears running out of my eyes, so other people said "Let ME SEE, Let ME SEE!!!!" Then it wouldn't take seconds until I heard others howling with laughter, also. If laughter is the best medicine, this book will be miraculous. I would love to buy sequels. There are millions of cat lovers and they can all relate in one way or another. Thank you, Mr Thompson, for making my whole body shake up like a martini. It felt so good, until my sides and mouth were hitting from cracking up too much. But, it sure was worth it!!!!

It is a quick, funny book written from the perspective of a cat. I think it would be better as a print book, because I had to swipe so often to go through the commentary and drawings. Some of the observations were made by an obviously grumpy cat! My own cats don't fit the "attitude" shown by this feline!

I love you Max the Cat!Great read. I'm owned by two kitties, JoJo the Lion and Cici Jane. I can't imagine my life without my furry kids.I have only one issue, they catch a live mouse, play with it and play. Then. They turn it loose. Never any blood. Sometimes the giveaway is a rug rolled up on the floor. Straighten the rug, dead mouse falls out.Thanks for the great read!!#CatsRule

Maybe because I just finished the very serious and responsible book by Bradshow but I did not find this book very funny.Of course, my beloved cat may have similar thoughts but she behaves so well, always knowing her place in my house I had never any problem with her in eight years.One detail. The author seems to like the 'cat towers' - useless pieces of expensive junk. My cat, of course, climbs way up the ceiling and likes to watch the house from there. To buy her some kind of 'tower'? Never, never, never.Or maybe I am just an old grouch...Two stars only, recommended to people who like this kind of humor.

If you are expecting War and Peace, you won't get it. What you WILL get is a fun, snarky, intelligent book by a handsome man in black and white fur. I absolutely LOVE this book and have converted several "staff members" to the love of Max by recommending this book to them. Grab the book. Grab the crunchy treats the cat believes are for him/her (but are not). Find a comfy chair and put the cat ON your lap after removing him/her from the chair and prepare for a fantastic read. I'll say in advance, welcome to the Max fan club!

I think, or rather hope, that this book is dependent on the layout of the words on the page. Unfortunately all is lost on the Kindle. The jokes fall flat without the relevant drawings.The emails at the end seem to be tagged on in a desperate effort to bulk out the book which is frankly overpriced. Max Thompson is not an author that I will be reading again.

Max is a genius and should be listed to by all kitties who wish to train their humans. From the human point of view Max gives help to humans who wish to avoid either a toothy death, mysterious poops and baffing or the " tail " in the face. A must read for ALL humans and the cats who let us be their slaves.

We are owned by two cats, and really enjoyed this book. Luckily we have been taught well by all the cats we have served, so knew most of the rules already but, until reading this, we had not necessarily understood the reasons for the rules. Now we do. Thank you.

My cat acquired me almost three years ago and as a convert I love reading about cats, they are so selfish and self centred, but I love mine to bits, it's to know that he's devilishly normal for a cat.

Excellent read!! very funny and if you're a cat owner / lover you will appreciate the humour and narrative. It's a shortish book but worth the time and money.
