THE LITTLE MERMAID is now part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection. This celebrated Anniversary Edition invites you to sing along with the award-winning songs, venture inside the studio for original recording sessions, and share memories with leading ladies who created iconic characters through Alan Menken's music. Review: A fantastic new edition of a fantastic animated classic - First of all, I was very surprised to see that Disney has produced a new digital restoration for The Little Mermaid's Signature edition Blu-ray. The Diamond Edition already looked pretty fantastic, but this new presentation looks even better. The sound is pretty much the same as the previous release, but to be honest, no improvement was needed in that department. The bonus features include a discussion between Alan Menken and some leading Disney ladies, recording sessions, a discussion between Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel) and Alan Menken about the song "Part of Your World", and its impact on the movie (this is a digital exclusive), plus a big part of the bonus features found on the previous release. The movie is one of Disney's best, and this new release doesn't disappoint one bit. The packaging is another highlight. The beautiful slipcover art features a lot of embossement and holographic effects. It's such an upgrade from the Diamond Edition art, because the characters look like themselves. Highly recommended. Review: A true classic - When you think of Disney this is what you expect and should see from a classic film. A great story, great music that is catchy and loveable characters. A must get for any movie collection.

Digital copy alone is worth the purchase.
We bought this version even though we already have the platinum and diamond editions, and have no regrets. The movie itself is fantastic, so we are more than happy to have another copy around the house. The real draw here though is the digital copy that came with it. With a 2.5 year old at home, being able to have access to one of her favorite movies on the go anywhere we want to log into our movies anywhere account is amazing. The special features are a nice bonus, and probably something that my daughter will enjoy when she's older. For now, the weekly request of "can we watch Arielle?" is easier, and looks better, than ever.

Great movie in 4k
Im happy to see Disney releasing more of their classic movies on 4k. This release is right up there with the rest of them! If youre looking to upgrade from dvd/standard blu-ray i would say go for it!

A classic that helped jump-start the Disney Renaissance
While Disney may try to do live-action remakes of their classics in order to cash in on that nostalgia, there's no true way to measure up to the original. And one of those original classics is 'The Little Mermaid'. It cannot be overstated how important this film is to Disney's history. The company was not doing very in the 80s, especially when 'The Black Cauldron' was a box office bomb for the company and forced the film division to be downsized. It was even rumored that the company would dismantle the film division in favor of putting more funds towards its theme parks. But in 1989, The Little Mermaid changed everything when it bought the studio back from the brink, entering what we now call the Disney Renaissance. After the Little Mermaid, Disney went on a crazy four year period of creativity with films like Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, The Rescuers Down Under (a rather underrated film) and last but certainly not least The Lion King. Without the Little Mermaid, we wouldn't have gotten these classics. But enough of that, let's talk about The Little Mermaid. It's a really good film, one that's for the whole family to enjoy. Yeah, there are some negative aspects like the love story not making too much sense and Ariel being too much of a bratty teenager who doesn't really learn much, but it does have a lot of heart and imagination to it. The animation and music are especially the highlights of this film. I give this film a 7/10 rating and definitely worth buying on Bluray/DVD.

Original 'The Little Mermaid' Shines In 4K Rendition
Forget the horrible live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid', because the original animated version is far superior. And with this 4K rendition, you can truly enjoy what Disney had originally created with the talented men and women of its animation division. The original songs, character voices and simple storyline will once again remind viewers just how wonderful Disney animation used to be. This 4K version is absolutely wonderful on a large flat screen television set.
