Make Your Own Pixel Art: Create Graphics for Games, Animations, and More!

This book is absolutely amazing. It covered all the basics needed to get started in Aseprite and create pixel art for my first video game. The book has quality pictures, great examples, and best of all a sense of humor. It's written for all ages. I highly recommend buying this for anyone interested in pixel art or simply fun digital art in general. Great price too. P.S. My game is "Mr. Blob's Honey-Do List" on Steam if you're interested. I'm enjoying the book working on aseprite. It is good for beginners (like me)

I've waited for this book to come out for some while as there is little out there in book form on creating pixel art. It looks simple, but the artform is very dependent upon subtlety of pixel placement. I was hoping that the book would be filled with examples of that level of detail specifically aimed at games. Unfortunately, no. The book starts with detail on using Aseprite (a low cost pixel art program). This is AWESOME as Aseprite is the go-to pixel art creation program for many developers. The middle of the book discusses colors, shading and shapes. This section is fine, but needs more detail. There are too many "you need to do this" and then a page that says to experiment. The section on characters should be about 3x larger, since characters are pretty ubiquitous to games. The final third of the book covers the "juice", or details that give a game life (colorful lasers, explosions, fire, idle movements) and most of these are given 1 page or so of explanation. It seriously looks like this part was tacked on, since so little attention is given to each component. I wanted to love this book, but came away disappointed that it wasn't larger and contained more detail than just "this is how I did it" with a photo showing 6 frames of animation and a suggestion to try it yourself. I'd love to see an expanded 2nd edition, as the base is good, but sadly lacking detail that would be filled in with more material.

Not overly wordy; Dawe teaches you all the things. There's several semesters of class in this book. Worth buying just for the illustrations!

If you're working with Aseprite to create pixel art, you should probably pick this up.

After 5 years of doing pixel art and struggling to find work, I thought this would help me take my art to the next level. But it was of little help. Almost all the information is too vague or stuff I already learned myself. It just doesn't provide explanations on how to draw pixel art or how to apply different techniques. The exercises don't give step-by-step instructions on how to replicate the examples, and the examples are too small to make out all the pixels. By Chapter 3 I was so bored I stopped reading completely. It's just isn't informative and detailed enough to be helpful.

Ottimo libro per imparare la pixel art, ricco di disegni, spunti e guide su come avanzare passo passo nel processo creativo. Scritto in un inglese non troppo complesso e quindi adatto anche ai meno avvezzi alla lingua.

Great to learn some of the basics for drawing pixel art, and easy to follow.

Perfect book for those that like pixel art they use an older software but it’s a guide on how to use it!

Estoy encantado con el libro, no solo porque aprendo Pixel Art sino porque también uso ASEPRITE y el libro se enfoca en esta herramienta. De manera que para mi ha sido un premio doble porque soy nuevo tanto en el Pixel Art como ASEPRITE. Bingo....!!!!
