Grizzly G9660 Surface Plate Stand, 24-Inch by 36-Inch

I purchased a granite surface plate for our lab to be used for preparing samples and it was fine.I purchased this Stand expecting it to be of decent quality. I was very wrong.This Surface plate "Stand" is of extremely poor quality!1. It is made out of the lowest quality steel angle stock that I have ever seen. There are large voids in it and in some places the material doesn't make it far enough to form a competent edge.2. The tolerances held in the production of these frames are extremely poor! On the frame I received, the top where the granite block rests is 1/2" smaller in width than the legs. This leaves a 1/4 inch gap on each side that is spanned only by the low quality bolts that come with it. This causes each joint to act as a hinge as opposed to being rigid.3. The granite block doesn't sit flat in the stand. The welds on the angle are very poor and misaligned. I sat the top of this thing on my lab bench and put the granite slab on it. It was 3 point loaded so it rocked in the stand. I expect that if I were able to put it on the fully assembled stand safely the frame might bend to fit the Slab but who knows.4. The holes through the frame were drilled randomly by hand. This means that the legs must be matched to the side where they were drilled and the holes aren't drilled straight.When put together this stand can't even support its own weight vertically. Mine came to rest with the legs at about a 60 degree angle with the floor.I wouldn't ask anyone to put a several hundred pound piece of granite on this "Stand".The purchase of this stand made me extremely skeptical about Grizzly. They obviously don't care about the quality of the products they sell.They need to pull this product. It's not even capable of meeting it's intended purpose.

The stand was unstable and not square. We didn't feel it would be able to support the 360 lb surface plate and returned it.
