Silverstone Tek 12.7mm Height 2.5-Inch SATA HDD/SSD Caddy Conversion Tray for Laptop (TS09)

Took the bezel off of my CD/DVD drive, snapped it on the caddy, installed by 2.5mm HDD, and inserted into the optical drive bay. Works great, and since I was able to use my DVD drive bezel, it looks great! The drive was instantly recognized... which makes sense since this is really just a passive connector adapter and not an active piece of electronics. No tools were required. The caddy has good build quality and good fit.For reference, I used this in my Lenovo Y550P with a Toshiba 2.5" HDD (not sure of model number).

Ok, before you go Nahh, here's how I did it:1 bought SSD (Kingston v300)2 initialized SSD3 copied HDD (acronis 2013 supports win 8)(Kingston sdds come with USB-Sata adapters)4 removed HDD, replaced with SSD5 removed optical bay, replaced with caddy + HDD6 wiped/formatted HDDNotes:I belive ths caddy only supports Sata 2 speeds, some laptops have Sata 1 optical bays2 to take advantage of a SSD, it has to be in the origerinal HDD bay3 this can also be used to double your HDD space4 most newer laptops treat the optical bay as Sara, so you can plug in any saa device, older laptops may not work due to the laptop thinking its a cd/DVD readerProduct reviewI bought this so I could add a SSD and increase my boot speed ithout loosing the 720 go HDD in my laptopI bought silver stone because Silverstone has a good reputation, as does amazonThe caddy is ALL plastic, but it's sturdy and works with my hard driveThere are mounting screws included, I used the origerinal screws from my HDDThere is no faceplate included, instead remove your optical bay faceplate and snap it on(universal 12.7mm)To determined the optical bay size (9 or 12.7mm), simply remove the optical reader and measure the height with a ruler

I bought two of them and non worked! It almost killed two of my brand new SSDs and certainly killed my friend's HDD.

Installed in a Dell L502X. Worked great other than the fact that the bezel was slightly too thick to allow standard hard drive screws to make purchase into the drive casing and secure it in place. Had to sand down the plastic several MM at the screw points without degrading the integrity of the enclosure. Was a major PITA and made a mess. Tried several sets of screws to no avail so I don't think I can blame it on the fastener. Other than that it has been working great, holding the drive securely, and the DVD bay cover fits well and sufficiently flush with the laptop casing.

I bought these one because I bought one from Dealextreme that arrived to late. but first than this on. I installed the one of DX and I see that Silverstone caddy is cheap, not well presented. I do not recommend, buy another.

This caddy is perfect in every way. I purchased 2 of them, one for a Asus K55n and Another for a low end Acer Laptop. Both fit perfectly, these are the best caddies I've ever purchased. Also the exterior drive covers also fit perfectly, you really cant go wrong with these!Pros:Plastic = Lightweight: Its solid, doesn't vibrate. This is an excellent product and it fit my Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 perfectly. The caddy came with holes properly placed to secure the actual hard drive to the unit as well as one to mount the bracket that secures the caddy to the laptop. Additionally, this caddy makes it extremely easy to affix the DVD drive facia for a clean, stock appearance. All screws necessary for installation were included. The only downside to this caddy is that it uses an always-on green LED where I would have preferred blue or white, but that's grasping for cons. All in all, this is a great product that is well designed and it is exactly what I was looking for.

I was reluctant to put this device into an expensive machine that stores so much important information. The reason is that the soldering job is really very bad. There are solder bridges galore and flux all over the place. I'm surprised it works. I actually returned the first one assuming I'd gotten a badly reworked return unit. Well, the second one is the same. I took photos of the soldering in macro mode and the solder bridges are very obvious. I'll try to upload them. I don't know how they can ship these.So far windows sees the drive and I can perform transfers. The rates do seem low but I don't know if it's due to the slower Blu-ray SATA port or some other bottleneck. If it fails, I'll update the review.Mechanically it works great. Perfect fit on a DV7-4290US and probably many others. You have to transfer a bracket (for securing the unit) and the bezel from the old drive and you're in business.

El producto tardo un poco en llegar pero llego bastante protegido, recomendado para los que quieren ampliar la capacidad de su laptop, tomar en cuenta que muchas laptops no pueden ejecutar el windows desde ese puerto sata, se tiene que remplazar el disco interno, comparar el tamaño de su lector de discos, este adaptador es de buena calidad, es bastante util.

Es un producto funcional y que se adapta perfecto para poder realziar un crecimiento de tu almacenamiento, lo recomiendo.

Si quieres tener una unidad de almacenamiento extra, este es tu producto! Asegúrate de checar la medida de la cavidad de tu laptop ya que hay dos medidas, antes de comprarlo busca en Google tu unidad lectora y Checa las medidas. En mi caso lo estoy devolviendo por que necesito bootear del segundo disco y con este producto no se puede, en mi computadora que es Toshiba, pero instalando Ubuntu o cualquier distribución de Unix, se puede seleccionar el sistema operativo desde el disco que está en el caddy

No entiendo porque las gamas bajas de laptops insisten con a hue** meter lectores de discos que absolutamente ya nadie usa. Por suerte hay alternativas y con la bajada de precio en los últimos años de las SSD la conveniencia es evidente
