1st one didn’t work. 2nd one did.
Update: I contacted the seller and they responded within a day or so. They tried to troubleshoot the issue but it turned out I just received a bad HD. They mailed me a new HD and I received it today. This new one works just fine. No issues.Previous review:I just received the 320 GB External HD today. I plugged it in to format it on two machines and it did not work. The HD just spins for a few minutes and then goes silent. It does not mount.I've contacted the sellers and I'm waiting for a response.

It's storage
Bought to increase the storage on my daughter's laptop. It fits the bill. Don't expect blazing speed on loading anything from it, but it does work.

Cheap
I bought this due to the size I needed and price and it arrived quickly. I am not impressed with the unit as a whole. It feels like a standard hard drive placed in a portable enclosure. You can feel the drive moving around inside the enclosure, so I wouldn't use this a a portable unit. Besides, it needs two USB ports - one for data and the other for power...I visited the manufacturer's website. A joke at best. Nothing there to brag about or keep my interest in ever returning. It connected to my laptop without issues, but there weren't any backup software on it like I read on the site. No worries, I wasn't going to use it anyway. So, I did a low level format. To test it, I transferred the contents of a similar drive to it and it was a bit slow. I don't have a way to measure performance, but I suspect it transfers at slower than USB 2.0 speeds.Since this does not look like a reliable drive, I'm going to use it for temporary storage and working files. If you're looking for something truly portable, buy a brand name that has mastered the portable market.11.12.2020 Update. I read several reviews about it failing, so I set two partitions on this drive. That way if/when that partition fails, I have the other one to press on with. I then moved a 63 gb file from one partition to hte next and it took 35 minutes! Very slow. When it was done, I opened the enclosure and discovered it's an older Toshiba. I don't know if they're overstock drives placed into enclosures or recycled drives...don't know. All I know is that it was manufactured in 2015 (not going to research the drive serial number and look for specs) and may have a SATA 2 interface which is comparatively slow to what's available today. But, for $20, I won't complain too much.

Great for photography/art majors
I've had this hard drive for almost 2 years. It is the first and only external hard drive I have ever purchased. At first I just used it as a backup for concert photos and over things from my phone, but as I've been in college the past couple of years, it has been a great backup for storing my work and photos (I'm a photography major). It is lightweight and easy to carry around and store, and hasn't worn down over the years I've had it. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes the wire can be a little loose when it comes to connecting, and then my file transfer will have to stop halfway through. But this doesn't happen very often, and it might even be my computer's fault rather than the hard drive.
