Yes they push on to cars line fittings,description says 6-ball collar.lift collar to engage or remove adapter.

I can’t seem to get the high side attached, anyone else have this problem?

Mine worked just fine. Are you attaching it to the correct fitting? Is the knob in correct position when attaching? If yes to all that then maybe you have a defective item.
