The Green Smoothie Diet is a cleansing and detox/weight loss diet, which, according to J.D. Rockefeller, the author of the book, will result in your losing up to 15 pounds in 10 days. As someone who has been near my ideal weight for more than four decades, I'm not personally in the market for diets that hold out the promise of weight loss, but I am interested in those that promote healthy living. And the Green Smoothie Diet is one such diet.Basically, this diet consists of various leafy green vegetables (kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, etc.) and other healthful fruits and vegetables (e.g., berries, apples, bananas, celery) blended to make a smoothie. The author recommends a total of 64 ounces (half a gallon) of smoothie each day. (For example, one could do 32 ounces at breakfast and 16 ounces at each of the other meals.) For the first few days, notes the author, you are likely to feel cranky and lightheaded, but this is just because the body is detoxifying itself. However, by the end of ten days your body will have rid itself of the poisons that have accumulated from the typical American diet.In addition to explaining what a green smoothie is, its health benefits, and how to do a green smoothie cleanse, the author discusses some of the "nuts and bolts" issues, such as the cleaning and storing of fruits and vegetables, what sort of blender to use (you'll want a strong one, such as a Vita Mix), and how to go about making a green smoothie. Also included are several green smoothie recipes (with enough variety to break up what could otherwise be monotonous).Whether you decide to switch to a green smoothie diet, one thing is clear. For most of us, our current diets are weighted heavily toward processed, high sodium content foods, and are lacking in adequate raw fruits and vegetables. Whether you choose to get these through smoothies or in some other way, making these a major part of your diet is essential to long-term good health.I became aware of this book when the author sent me a pdf file along with a request for an honest review.

provided good information on how to make smoothies..not many recipes
While this book broke it down on what blender to purchase, veggies/fruits to use and the steps involved in completing the detox. It lacks in giving you recipes. 10 recipes, that's it. I expected more meat from a renown writer.

His instructions are very well written - he is obviously concerned that his readers understand the process. The sections on cleansing and detoxing are particularly well presented. The recipes offered in chapter 9 (smoothies for weight loss) are particularly fine. A very goo start for those new to the concept of green smoothies used for purposes other than just being delicious and healthy drinks! Grady Harp, September 14

I found this very helpful.
I am grateful this author took the time to put this on audible - the only time I have to learn new things is to listen while I drive. This audio book answered a lot of questions for me about smoothies vs juicing and which might work better for me. I dislike using a juicer, so much, that I find I just don't. I usually just blend and strain. This book opened me up to a whole new world of using blended healthy drinks.

Full disclosure, I recorded the audio version of this book but I had to write a review simply because after reading it, it changed my life. A bit dramatic? Maybe, but it inspired me to take control of my health. I drink a green smoothie each morning now and even got my wife involved. She is quick to point out that, when we don't have one, her energy levels noticeably drop. Great book. Thank you, J.D Rockefeller.
