A Pocket Wonder…
I’ve owned an Aputure M9 for around 18 months and have really enjoyed using it, however it’s always had it’s limitations, primarily with regards to the fixed white output (no colour shift), the clunky method of manually adding coloured ‘gels’ and the somewhat limited battery life.Step forward the Aputure MC, which changes the game altogether when it comes to pocket LED lighting. To try and compare the MC with the M9 would be a mistake as they’re both completely different (reflected in their pricing) and it simply wouldn’t do justice to what the MC brings to the table. In fact, the only real similarities between both lights are their size and form factor, with the MC being just that little bit bigger with slightly more depth, adding an extra 55g to the older M9 model.Despite this extra weight, the MC remains a very light and compact solution that tips the scales at only 127g (172g with the rubber diffuser attached) and manages to outshine the M9 in every area. The MC can be operated by the little clicky wheel on the side of the unit that provides full access to all the menus which are clearly displayed via the built in LED screen. This method of operation works well however to get the very best from this light you really need to download the Sidus Link App, which is available for both Android and IOS devices.Once installed on your smartphone the app provides you with a completely different user experience, which is so intuitive but at the same time very hard to describe. It just works… brilliantly! If I was to list every feature and function Sidus Link and Aputure can pull off with this package I’d be here all day so I’ll leave you to scour the many videos available on YouTube that show just what’s capable from this little pocket wonder.Ignoring my initial ‘issue’ of trying to pair the light to my phone - (EVERYTHING is done through the app and NOT through your phones Bluetooth settings) - my experience with this light has so far been extremely positive.Aputure quotes a run time of over 2hrs on full power and I found this to be accurate, managing 2hrs and 13mins at 5700k before the light ran out of juice. With wireless charging available on the unit as well as standard charging through it’s USB-C port, you’re spoiled for choice when the time comes to recharge.Intended more for the video creator than the stills photographer, I wouldn’t really recommend using the MC as your main key light as it just doesn’t have the power to fully light a person or scene, but then I wouldn’t expect such a small unit to be able to do this. The light’s intended use is as an ambient light, supplementing your key light and it does this with aplomb. For the videographer, the MC provides endless lighting possibilities, whether you want to colour match it with existing lights in your setup, colour pick a custom light output using your smartphones camera or produce SFX like fireworks or the flashing lights of emergency service vehicles, this little light delivers it all effortlessly. So are there any drawbacks or negatives? The initial setup with regards to the app integration could’ve been a bit clearer, but then as the Sidus Link app develops any written documentation would become outdated so there could be good reason for this lack of written guidance. Also, at first glance the price of the unit does appear quite high for what is essentially a small LED light that slips into your trouser pocket. It’s only when you get your hands on the Aputure and experience the build quality (the integral mounting magnets are great) and see what it can actually do that you appreciate the price point represents excellent value for money.Aputure have produced an outstanding product with the MC and at the same time have thrown in some fantastic app support making it an absolute joy to use.Put simply, this light should be in every content creators kit bag… it really is that good!!!

Really Versatile
This light initially caught my attention when I saw it featured in a video where its colour changing capabilities were being used, which was a big draw on its own. From my usage when using the colour temperatures of white the brightness really stands out in a room that's lit by 3x 470 lumen ceiling lights. When changed to a specific colour the brightness appears to be lesser, though from my product shots this hasn't been an issue - the colours stand out quite well.Changing the colour is a bit finnicky on the device itself as this is controlled via a single dial. You'd have to rotate the dial 2-3 clicks for it to register turning (which seems to be a feature to avoid accidental knocks) and rotate through an HSI number, which is a bit tedious. Changing the colour temperature is less tedious, however.Setting up via the app is quick, though the app itself seems to be designed to cater for large quantities of lights, rather than an individual one. I had to work my way through the app and determined that you need to create a group so that you can assign the light to that group. Handy if you want 2-3 lights to be controlled at once but if you're using just 1 it's a bit overkill. This isn't a real issue, it just would have been nicer to control a single light with a quick tap or two, rather than working with a group of 1.The versatility is exceptional - this light comes with (two) 3M velcro strips, two high-powered magnets on the back and a tripod mount to allow it to be stuck to a nice variety of mounting locations and can be charged by USB C or a Wireless Qi charger.

A must have for any RGB lighting needs.
This RGB light is AWESOME.Long story short - I’m getting into product Videography & even if your not this light has so much to other everyone that like multiple lighting setups. I would recommend this light to anyone that is in need of a fun RGB light. The free app to control this light just makes it even more fun.You can control multiples of these lights with the app as well.

Decent light, high quality item, doesnt blow me away functionally considering price
High quality item, useful to have in camera bag, easy to use interface after a bit of playing around with it.It is not extremely bright, but good for its size and from my use, the battery doesnt last very long, but again expected, Im just used to cheap LED lights lasting hours off a sony battery, but that IS a much larger setup. It just didnt blow me away with brightness OR battery life.Additional thing I would wish for is a smaller method of diffusion rather than the provided cilicon dome, which makes the whole package about 3 times as thick, and you really do want that softening Id say for pretty much any purpose. If there was a magnet card type diffuser included would have been very nice.

All round great light
This is an amazing light! It is a little bit bigger than a credit card in size and is about the depth of a phone. Despite this, the power is phenomenal, even with the handy silicone soft box it comes with, the diffused lighting is still very bright! The small design and the handy case make it great to just throw in my camera bag for a shoot and the versatility of the light makes it easy to use in everyday shoots too! It has a screw hole so it is easily mounted on to a tripod. I thought the light was so good I bought a second!

Another light died!
In less than 1 year! This is the second light that’s failed fast. I believe the supplier here is selling seconds kit as Aperture is great quality and their lights don’t fail this fast. There’s no way of returning this and Amazon just sends you to a huge support site. I can’t even find the product. In short, again and again it points to buying products from reputable suppliers, NOT Amazon.
