Art of Carving Netsuke, The

I have been carving wood for 5 years now. My favorite is carving miniature animals and furniture for my grandchild's doll house. I was visiting woodcraft store and came across this book. I purchased this netsuke book and now I'm hooked. For a beginner it is simple and right to the point. The step by step instructions are easy to follow. I started with a soft material, the inside of golf balls and clay. Exotic woods are the best as explain and demonstrated in the book. I had purchased 12 books and gave them to my fellow carvers. Read it for yourself, I highly recommend it.

Absolutely like new, as is the substantial case sleeve it comes in. Would make a spectacular gift ... except I’m keeping it! :)

This is an excellent book, the projects may be a tad on the simple side, but I think that just increases the appeal. The book is well laid out, and easy to understand. This is definitely a book for adults or perhaps young adults, but I would not recommend it for young children at all.

Really a good/great book for learning how to create this miniature art.Very detailed, very good coverage.One "complaint", if I must call it that, The examples are pretty basic... at least one more complicated example would have done me good.But, since this is the only "how to" on this subject, I am as happy as a clam.Thank you!

This book offers so many ideas and explains all of the facets for you to use. The outcome of the finished product is really special.

Fun to browse but doesn't quite make it. Not a book on how to. Really doesn't go far enough. Not really a history book either

A book will have to get back to at a later date as did not inspire me to start carving Netsuke just yet

Fantastic book for all woodcarvers. Even if you don't fancy carving such small objects, it's packed full of inspiration and ideas and techniques. I particularly like the section at the back which showcases professional netsuke artists and also the list of websites of suppliers of tools and materials. A must-have

This is the first low cost books on carving Netsuke I have found, for a beginner this book will put you on the right road
