It worked for my scalp problem
Recommended by my dermatologist; he gave me samples and my flares went away. Use twice a week now to prevent future issues.

Closest I could find to medi-dan
I’ve used medi-dan at least once a week for my dry scalp for the past 10+ years. It was so effective and cooling feel, I would send to friends abroad if they were having issues w scalp. Well medi-dan is no longer produced and I spent an afternoon in a rabbit hole researching different options, etc. I tried a few, but this was the winner in closest effectiveness to medi-dan. It takes a bit more to lather, but the tar smell/effect comes through and does work. If you are someone who finds neutrogena t-gel, either the clear or tar version, effective, then lucky you and you likely don’t need this which is on the stronger side. The bottle is smaller than you’d think and more the size of a bottle of toner than shampoo. But, if you are someone who suffers from a really itchy scalp in particular (I don’t have psoriasis or anything similar to how my scalp feels anywhere else), then this may be your savior. Pro tip from a sales lady at Sally’s years ago - get one of the thin blue palm sized scrapers. Apply sea breeze astringent first on scalp, scrape off dead scalp skin with scraper, and rinse very well before applying this shampoo. 🤌

Only Tar Shampoo that has Worked for my Dermatitis
I have suffered from dermatitis for most of my life (since as early as age five). It's been a struggle to find a product that actually works and does not inflame my scalp. I have tried all different kinds of shampoos claiming to treat dermatitis only to make it worse and cause hair loss. The smell isn't great, but as a Tar based shampoo it is the most effective product I have ever used on my scalp. What I have learned with the help of a dermatologist is that I am allergic to perfumes, which go figure most other Tar and dermatitis targeting shampoos on the market are loaded with perfumes, so they actually made my dermatitis worse. For the few weeks I've been using this product, my scalp has significantly improved and it leaves my hair feeling softer than most other products. If you have struggled to find a product that can help treat dandruff and dermatitis, I strongly recommend trying this product.

Yup, it smells. But it works!
I found this shampoo while looking for some hardcore dermatitis and/or psoriasis dandruff shampoo. What I had was not just regular dry scalp and itch. So it smells. A lot. My husband legit exclaimed, "What is that smell?!" while I was in the shower. He was shaving at the sink, we have one bathroom just to be clear. The smell is not unbearable and is gone once I rinse and use my conditioner and styling products. More importantly, awful itchy flake problem was 50% better after one wash and 75% better after the second. I've been using it every other day for a few weeks now and my scalp feels and looks 90% better. Update: July 2019 I have kept this product around for a seb derm flare, but have been able to cycle it put for now. If I used it more than once a week I got drier and sore, try using the DHS Zinc shampoo for a daily washer if you have a sensitive scalp!

used it for another reason, but great product
well I got this lump/bald spot on my head, and it didnt go away for a few months. I was washing my head daily, and was told to try a coal shampoo as it might help. So I found this one, and decided to give it a try. One of the biggest things I have noticed since using this is I dont have white flakes in my hair at all any more. Like I have short hair, but I can nail my scalp and see nothing fall in front of my eyes, where previous to using this I would. It has definately helped with my dry scalp issue and thats pretty awesome. As far assisting with the lump, nope didnt work. I went to a doctor, and i will be needing to take medacine to get rid of it, so its not something a shampoo was going to be able to fix anyway. I was an infected poor I guess. Anyway, this product will definately help with your dandruff / dry scalp. It even helped clear up my face a bit. Really good shampoo, its the only one I have used for the last month or so, and I have not received any complaints that my head stinks, and it really doesnt smell that bad. Maybe if you smell the lather on your hands while in the shower you will get a semi strong smell, but once you wash your head and hands off it is gone, and you left with nice clean smell free hair :)

Probably good for dry scalps, but those with oily hair might want to pass on this.
I have mild-to-moderate seborrheic dermatitis and this does a fairly good job with flakes when I first wash. However, it does absolutely nothing to help with the oiliness (and in all fairness, doesn't claim to) so within a day my scalp is so oily the flakes come back with a vengeance. It's really gentle on hair and probably works wonders on drier scalps, but if you have an oily scalp and don't want to have to wash your hair every other day, you might want to find something else (DHS sal shampoo is good for oil and build up, and their zinc shampoo cleans enough to get rid of excess oil).

A very good product for both psoriasis and seboric dermatitis. Both of which I have. Excess use can cause burning sensation.
