Ideaworks Long Range Wi-Fi USB Tower Antenna (83-7183)

This product meets all of my expectations that I had written down. It connects my laptop and desktop to surrounding wifi and hotspot locations. My laptop was not reaching a signal network from the basement but got a 5 bar signal once I attached this. Do make sure to disable other wireless adapters that may be programmed into your computer as I find that did interfere with installation and usage at first. They recommend that in the instructions as well. I love the 10 foot cord as this provides flexibility in deciding where to place it. The suction cups were very reliable when I decided I wanted to stick it underneath a table, facing it horizontally. I bought two and found that both found internet connections on all 4 computers that I used them on. Both reached out about 1/2 mile as advertised.

I was using a Apple Airport in my shop it is a proximately hundred yards from the house , I thought I could improve my speed with this tower (WRONG) the speed was cut in half , so the airport express worked much better, I do not recommend this product , and as far as half a mile that is a joke , can't even go 100 yards

Have a camper at a campground and recently moved to a new location. The camp WiFi barely worked and I kept losing the signal. I purchased this antenna and BAM the signal is much better. I am even able to stream Netflix. Not as fast as cable, but the WiFi is free and this is a great solution. I did not think it would work but it does. Software was easy to load and the instructions were clear. I am a fussy consumer and this product impressed me. I highly recommend it.

The problem with this attena is that it does not work with windows 10, not sure if it even works with windows at all. For me it was a waste of time and $$. And the loading program that came with it was a pain to delete.

A little unwieldy, and seems to have a polarization direction rather than being circular. That means that it will work better standing up if the signal is vertically polarized, and it will work better laying down if the signal is horizonally polarized. Its also huge, which makes it a bit of a challenge to work with in the car. I believe the suction cups are on the wrong side, because when you affix it to the inside of a window, the best receiving direction appears to be inside the car or dwelling. I sometimes put it on the outside of the car window to communicate with the wifi from my health club's parking lot, but of course it doesn't appear to be weatherproof so this is not a 100% solution.Otherwise, it works pretty good. It replaced a small Ubiquiti long range wifi antenna which was much smaller and didn't seem to have to polarization anomalies this one has, but couldn't install the drivers for it in Windows 10 because they were not "digitally signed." I could have gotten it to work by turning off digital signing enforcement in Windows 10, but that would have been a security compromise that I didn't want to take.I have a new Microsoft Surface Pro 4 that has a much better WiFi internal modem, and don't need this antenna as much as before, but this is really long range when you get it properly oriented - was connecting into the TGI Friday's wifi across a big pond about 100 yards away when my health club's wifi was acting up, and it worked, although not very speedily. But its a nice solution to the weak WiFi of a lot of fast food places when you want to use the drive-thru, sit in the car and surf the net without going in and setting up your computer in a booth just because that's the only way to access their weak wifi.

I stayed in a hotel for 8 months and the wifi did not reach my room. I tried a couple wifi antenna sent them back. I ordered this one and it worked perfect. East to download the cd program. The wifi was never a problem and I ran an ipad and a pc off of same connection using my pc as a virtual network. This product paid for itself over and over. Once in a while a truly worth wild product in comes along for those of us who cannot always have the luxury of great wifi.

product did not work because it would not install. and there is no way to call for support.if i could have given it no stars i would have. my old ideaworks antenna works on windows 10 even though it is not supposed to. you just insert the disc into a windows 7 computer and install it then put on a flash drive and install on windows 10.

I have been able to pick up internet service by just having the unit next to my window. I have free internet provided by a public service of great quality and clarity with no bill. Awesome piece of equipment!!!! One thing I will say is I live in a city so I do not know how this unit would perform in the suburbs or in the country, where public internet service would be scarce.
