I made a bunch of onigiri with this. 😊

Onigiri was a secret that was hidden from me my entire life. I had no idea how easy these were to make, and after struggling to form them by hand I decided to look for molds. I fell for this one because… Kirby.This thing is big!! It is absolutely perfect. Value for money is absolutely worth it. So far it has survived the dishwasher, but I’m still primarily handwashing it.I can fit about 2tbsp of filling in the center, and I made three onigiri from 4 cups of cooked rice. Only one is completely filling, these are definitely meal sized rather than being snack sized (depending on your appetite!)Getting a paper towel and applying a small amount of sesame oil helped to prevent the rice from sticking to the interior, and the onigiri slides out easily. I haven't used the lid for transport, because it’s difficult to get the onigiri back into the mold once it’s out. But the lid is adorable, the clasps are strong, and keeps the parts secure for easy storage.I highly recommend getting this, onigiri is the perfect struggle meal, and why not get a mold to help make a more perfect and easy to eat and wrap shape?

I had been making onigiri without a mold for a couple of years, and it was always such a chore, but I did it because I love them so much. I wish I had bought a mold sooner because this makes it 100 times easier. I think back on the many tutorial videos that said “you don’t need a mold to make onigiri.” That’s like saying you don’t need a tooth brush to brush your teeth. I guess you technically don’t, but you will to a significantly better job with it, and it will make the process so much faster and easier, it’s also less messy. How could these tutorials not mention that you get significantly less rice stuck to your hands with molds. Actually, you don’t even have to touch the rice with your hands at all with molds.Another issue I had before was that molds were to small. People claiming it’s “Japanese sized” yet I never see Japanese people with such small onigiri. This one however, is the perfect size in my opinion.Using one cup of rice (dried) and one can of tuna, I make 4 1/4 onigiri with this mold.

These containers are small so be sure to look at the measurements. The biggest one of the three won’t even fit a sandwich unless you smush it in there! They’re very easy to clean and the design hasn’t come off. I use these for storing snacks as a part of my lunch and they work perfectly for that.
