As a wanna be polyglot I am always looking for sources that could help me achieve greater levels of fluency. I've constantly changed my method trying different techniques to master various languages. I was looking for a resource to experiment with the Gold List method and found this amazing book. One of the best techniques to acquiring vocabulary is to review vocabulary words in CONTEXT. When I reviewed the book, I realized that if the context provides much more than the 2000 words in the title. If you put this list on ANKI or you use whatever retention technique you will be able to get a deeper level of understanding how the words should be used. I highly recommend this book! BTW I am an international attorney and have to learn multiple languages for my profession.

This dictionary is very comprehensive and easy to use. However I am finding the print a bit small for me, yes I am an older person! but I wear glasses for reading and don't usually have any difficulty.

I wish I had found this or something like this years ago when I started learning Russian. This definitely would have sped up the process. I found it most valuable not so much in having a list of the 2,000 most common words (most of which I know already), but in having 2,000 sentences that you can read in English and translate to Russian, and grade yourself how well you did and what you didn't know. This allows you to essentially practice talking/writing in Russian on your own.

As a polyglot who speaks five languages, I know how important vocabulary is for reaching fluency. When I learn a new language I always learn the most commonly used words in my target language. This book is fantastic for someone who is just beginning Russian as it gives you all the words that are likely to come up in everyday conversation. You don’t even need to know the Cyrillic alphabet as the book contains both the original Russian word and the transliteration. If you are just beginning learning Russian, this book is an essential!

Being a language teacher I am myself learning Russian and I always tell my learners to learn words in context. This is what this book is telling you to do, learn frequently used words in a sentence and it will be easier to remember the vocabulary. Very wise!

This is a really good book but it would be better if it was alphabetical instead of all over the place

This is a very useful resource for learners of Russian. It provides you with an extensive list of high frequency words and they are put into context. It is useful to have this book to help you organise your learning of vocabulary.

These books work great, I have the Russian for myself and Spanish for my daughter. If you actually read, work to remember, and use a little creative imagination these become extremely useful!

Small words, the beginnings of expressions , important prepositions are all listed systematically.

This book is SUPERB! After just a couple of days reading it, I found I could understand more words in the books I'm reading (parallel text, etc.). Providing the transliteration is a great help, as well as showing examples of how each word is used in a sentence, along with its English translation. It is a book that I will be reading many times over. Probably, I'll be reading a number of pages, then going over them again before moving forward, plus trying to put them in simple sentences. Can't recommend it enough! It's an excellent resource!
