Does the job easily
Has a nice weight making it easy to manipulate without fatigue. Bought to shave down cabinet doors that weren't closing properly. I was able tu quickly resolve the issue and get a smooth fit. I have many other doors in the house that I will be using this to adjust. Great addition to the tool box.

Amazing Plane For The Price
My first impression with this Amazon Basics No.4 Adjustable Universal Bench Hand Plane was - Wow! It came packaged in form fitted high density foam, wrapped in plastic and coated with oil to prevent rust. All in a very sturdy cardboard box! The plane has good weight and the bottom was smooth and flat. This was the easiest plane to adjust. After loosening the thump screw that locks the blade, two thumb screws on each side at the top of the blade adjusts the blade depth and angle. Very simple and easy to use! The blade was very sharp out of the box and shaved through wood like a hot knife through butter. I was able to get this for under 18$ and let me tell you, it is every bit as good as planes costing triple or quadruple that price. This plane will definitely be a great addition to my shop and get a lot of use. For the quality and price, I highly recommend it!

Amazingly good for the price
Works great, sole is flat (as per my straightedge), handles could be better.Pleasant surprise: reviews led me to expect an OK product, good for rough planing, but not up to fine work without significant filing. Perhaps I was lucky ;-)Adjustment with the double screws is easy and very stable. Blade came already well sharpened. Tightening is OK, but could be more user-friendly.My one complaint is that both the knob and the handle are undersized (and made of some synthetic material instead of wood, but that goes with the incredibly low price). I have smallish hands, but with the narrow profile of the handle, pushing the plane soon becomes uncomfortable -- I put a glove on my right hand to help distribute the pressure -- and with the small and somewhat low-lying knob, grasping it securely is uncomfortable. (I plan on replacing the knob.)Overall, a very high performance-to-price ratio and strongly recommended to any weekend woodworking warrior: it's not a Veritas, but then it's not $200+ either.

Good light duty plane
I needed something to knock down the edge on a door due to a shifting door frame. I live in Houston and the house is constantly moving around on the sea of semi-solidified clay which we use as a substitute for actual ground around here. Little known fact: "Houston" is actually an ancient American Indian word that means "disgusting swamp where no one wants to live." Air conditioning is the only reason it is even moderately habitable. Anyone who lived here prior to the 1950s had to be a dedicated masochist.Anyway, I figured if the tool lasted the two minutes it would take me to plane off a fraction of an inch -- thus allowing my return to the luxury of actually closing and locking my front door -- it would be worth what I paid for it. In fact, it is of very substantial steel construction and was coated in protective machine oil when it arrived. I'm sure it's not up to the standards of cabinetmakers, but for a light duty household tool it's quite serviceable and exceeds expectations at the price.

Will function as a plane but only after a LOT of work.
Firstly, the instructions tell you to make sure the sole is flat, I'm thinking "how bad could it be"? Well, the sole was not even close to being flat. It took me over 3 hours to get it flattened and useable. The shoe is also a casting and not smooth, in fact it was bumpy and oddly shaped. The mouth is misshapen and rough and not rectangle in shape. When blade is adjusted properly you will have a bigger opening on one side than the other. If you want to use it with a shooting board, forget about it, the sides are not even close to being 90 deg. In fact, from one side over the sole, it is almost 1/8" out of square. The blade had deep tooling marks on the beveled edge and was very rough on the back. Not sure about the hardness of the blade just yet because I haven't been able to use it yet other than testing. The adjusting mechanism is a joke, it can be adjusted to get the cut you need, but it is a real PITA to do. You have to loosen the shoe thumb screw and move the adjusting thumb wheels to where you think they need to be and then when you tighten the thumb screw the blade moves. So it takes several attempts to get it right.Overall, it will work OK with a good bit of work, but it's not a plane that I would want to use every day.

A very nice quality plane for my “close enough “ projects.

I wish I would’ve had one a long time ago
Professionally, I’m in engineer. At home I do a lot of renovations. My professional life set me up for a lot of disappointment as I work on things and realize they are not straight or square. This little guy has become my favorite new tool for taking the kinks out of studs are, and I’ve even used it to plane off paint or spackling to make a smooth transition between different wall materials. I know it’s not right I know it’s obsessive, but it makes me feel good. It’s easy to adjust. It works well and it was an expensive. There are probably fancier versions of this out there, but this checked all the boxes for me.

Great too for beginners
This was bought to do some minor wood work. The build quality is kind of shoddy. It functions alright, not best but for what I needed it for it did the work with a bit more of a struggle. You just have to make sure its properly calibrated so it can accurately cut flat and not too deep. Its an ok buy for the money.
