Q: Do these need to be connected to a rocker/switch or can they be wired straight into the back of a van's rear storage lamp?

I’ve wired mine directly into the curtesy in the back of my van without the switch cause the curtesy light will act as the switch.

Q: Are these plug and play or is there open wires/soldering involved?

There is a "open" wire at each end of the string of lights. You can join 2 strings together, one end connects to a power source (existing courtesy light). The other end needs to be insulated. I used a small terminal connector. Do not join the 2 wires together as this will blow a fuse on your vehicle and or damage the less.

I won't to put one end of these wire's in to a charge controller watt do i do with the other end
