Good fit.
I have two meter covers, each with a different size 5-sided screw. This key fit them both.

Ssems sturdy!
Just what we needed in case of an emergency at the street to take the lid off the city water shut off. We've needed one in the past & didn't have it so this is a just in case tool. Prepared now! Only reason I didn't give 5 stars of durability is I've only had it a few days. I don't know how it will last, but it seems good.

Great tool to have when needed!
I ordered this water meter key to have just in case we ever need to shut our water off at the street. I tried the key out to see if it worked - and it worked perfectly. It felt very sturdy and was quality made. I hope we never need it, but I'm glad to have it just-in-case.

For Standard and Ford, NOT Mueller
I wanted to wait until I got a chance to use this tool, but grew impatient with Amazon's delay in processing my correction to the description. The description Amazon is using is verbatim from Reed for the entire product line. According to the Reed web site, the MKF2 (this tool) has heads for "standard waterworks" and "large Ford" bolt heads ONLY. If you need to turn a "large Mueller", you'll need a Reed Reed MKH10820 Meter Box & Curb Box Lid Keys - Mueller 2 Lrg & Std Pent. (02380) (which fits standard and large Mueller). As near as I can tell, no one offers a "universal" (standard, large Ford and large Mueller) tool. The tool is made of lightweight cast metal. I can't tell if it's aluminum, zinc, or something else. Since it is meant to operate a latch, rather than turn rusted-in overtorqued bolts, it's been strong enough for our pit cover. The fit and finish are also a little rough. I've only used the standard waterworks socket and the prying tool; I can't say how well the "large Ford" socket fits. I'm happy enough with it.

Works as intended
I could not open the water box without this key. The water company charges to open it close the box. Now if I need to shut off the water, I can without waiting on them to come. This tool can save a boat load of money in damages if an emergency happens and you need to get to box and shut off.Unfortunately, my box is located at the front of my property line which is about 300 yards from the house. I think a shut off valve is on the horizon!

When you need the right tool for the job
Why does my old house have a stupid lock box for the water meter? Not interested in waiting for the utility to come out, when you have to shut off the water for repairs? You may want one of these 5-sided socket doohickeys. Does that job, and few others, perfectly. Will I use it more than a handful of times in my life? Unlikely.Am I glad I got one, just in case? Absolutely
