Short & Entertaining With Valuable Insights On Dealing With Stress & Bringing Body Into Metabolic Balance
Very short, easy to read (might take 30 min to read if you are a fast reader), thought provoking and entertaining in Matt's usual style. He explains in very understandable terms some of the things that happen when something is out of whack metabolically. He does not dole out dogma and a list of do's and don'ts - rather he gives you different things to be on the lookout for, experiment with, and emphasizes listening to your own body's signals on your journey to becoming healthy - acknowledging the fact that what works for one person may not work for another. As an ACE certified fitness professional with 30+ years experience in the biz, I've read, seen or heard just about everything out there in the health & fitness world get recycled at least once. After following Matt for several years I believe that he is onto some very valuable insights regarding dealing with stress and bringing the body into metabolic balance. This book is worth the read for anyone dealing with any chronic issue that may have metabolic imbalance at its root, not just "hypoglycemia". I would also recommend this for trainers or health professionals as many of the things we've been taught to do to get "fit" and "healthy" can actually trigger major metabolic imbalances which can lead to a variety of health problems.Oh, and did I mention that it is entertaining? Matt likes to poke fun and laugh at just about everything including himself and I find that quite refreshing.

A really great book with lots of useful tips.
I have been to countless doctors because for the last year I have not been able to sleep through the night because of "hypoglycemia". I would have sworn it was hypoglycemia. But when I used a glucometer my sugars were never low. So doctors told me I was having anxiety attacks but I didn't think that was what was happening. Matt's book addresses this and very similar issues. I swear it could have been written directly to me.I, also, have a friend who was having heart palpitations and was using V-8(which has lots of salt and some potassium) to treat it after doctor's failed to help. It worked like a charm. So I thought maybe I should try that. After reading Matt's book I thought maybe I am low in salt. After stopping drinking a whole bottle of mineral water before bed and adding some extra salt to my diet, I am finally sleeping through the night. You may wonder "Who the heck is Matt Stone and why should I listen to him?" but truly he has done the research and he has listened to people's stories and he really does know a lot.The only negative was that the book seemed slightly unfinished. It ends really abruptly like he was in a hurry to publish it and maybe should have made it longer or more detailed. But overall really a helpful book. I also recommend his 12 Paleo Myths.

Matt Stone's Best Book To Date - An Important Message Not Just for Hypoglycemics
Up front, let me tell you that several years ago I came across Matt Stone's work when I was very, very sick. I had been sick for years, and I was hopeless. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. And I had tried every dietary remedy you can imagine...except for one. Which is to drop all the rules and find creative ways to eat enough to increase my metabolic rate - which is what Matt advises. And that information, when put into practice, totally turned my health around. It was nothing short of a miracle.I have never really suffered from "hypoglycemia." But nonetheless, I found this book to be very insightful. And, I feel that Matt really nailed some important points. In particular, he described to the T a scenario that I see playing out over and over to many people's demise. I speak with many people who are suffering from chronic illness, and I hear this story nearly every time: the doctor, nutritionist, chiropractor, or other expert (or, often, all of them at the same time) advise the sick person to eliminate foods from his or her diet because of supposed allergies. And yet I have yet to hear anyone report to me that this actually makes things better. Instead, more often than not, things get worse! And Matt is spot on when he says that the problem isn't the food. The problem is something else that is causing metabolic rate to drop. That something else could be lifestyle stress, overwork, lack of sleep, infection, or something else entirely. But from what I can see, it is extremely rare that the food is actually the real problem. It just triggers symptoms because metabolic rate is so low.I honestly don't know if I've even written a review before. This may be the first. But I truly believe that Matt Stone has done a magnificent job with this short book. I really appreciate his emphasis on flexibility and adaptability that he encourages in this book. The book won't be for everyone, of course. I strongly suggest that you NOT read this book if you are deeply committed to the mainstream medical view of mypoglycemia or the mainstream dismissal of the importance of metabolic rate. I also strongly suggest that you NOT read this book if you are easily offended by off-the-wall jokes (the jokes in this book are the best yet, by the way.) Matt has a unique and (in my opinion) important voice in the world of health. And if you've got an open mind and you're willing to listen to sound advise that probably actually jibes with your actual experience, then this book is brilliant.(I should also note that having read several other books by Matt Stone and having kept up with his work at 180degreehealth, I am already quite familiar with much of his recommendations and his research. So I read this book with that background. It may be that for someone who is unfamiliar with Matt's work that this book may require supplementation with some of Matt's other work - much of which is available now for free by subscribing to his site.)
