Granted, they all seem to have been filmed on the same soundstage (even the firelit "Fernando"), but they retain their appeal and infectious charm. Fans can thrill to these vintage clips, which provide an opportunity to rediscover who was the most natural in front of the camera (Agnetha), who was the best dancer (Anna-Frid, a.k.a. Frida), who was the most demure (Benny), and who was the worst lip-syncher (Bjorn--always Bjorn). Lassé Hallstrom, later an Oscar®-nominated filmmaker, directed most of the early videos, and it shows in their natural, no-fuss style; it wasn't until Abba tried to make the jump to '80s-style electronica that they faltered in both style and content. In addition to old standbys like "Waterloo" and "Take a Chance on Me," don't pass up the light-years-ahead-of-its time "The Day Before You Came," or the live performance of "Dancing Queen" (in period costume!) at the Royal Swedish Opera. To this we say: Thank you for the music--and the videos! --Mark Englehart Review: The most comprehensive collection of ABBA's videos - Recently purchased this one (DVD) and it was a nice romp down memory lane of many ABBA hits. We used to own ABBA Gold, but felt this is a more complete collection (double the songs) even though it didn't have the English version of "I have a Dream", a video for "Lay All Your Love on Me", or the ABBA history documentary. We were okay with these "deficits" because the "Lay All Your Love on Me" video isn't an *official* video. It is composed of video clips from other *official* videos (e.g., Take A Chance on Me). We can find many ABBA history documentaries online and the "I have a Dream" version is on this DVD, but just in Spanish. The videos on this DVD are a mix of "promo clips", staged(?)-concert footage, and MTV-like videos. The quality of the videos do show their age being from pre-HD times in the 1970s and 1980s, but we weren't expecting remastered videos. It was fun to see them as we saw them back in the day. There is some bonus material (picture galleries, footage, stories, etc.). On a personal note, while enjoyable for the fun, bouncy, more *innocent* and *simpler* times they represent and we remember, watching these videos has a tinge of sadness and melancholy when one reflects on it reminding you how both marriages and the band itself broke up. They essentially had about a 10-year run together, longer than the Beatles, but still kinda sad to know they broke up. All that said, if you really like Abba, my wife and I personally think this is the best and most comprehensive of the three or four compilations of ABBA videos you will find on desertcart. This is NOT a documentary and you won't be disappointed. Review: Great entertainment for fans of ABBA - I'm not an MTV fan, so I couldn't compare their fare to the quality of the music videos on this DVD. I thought these were just fine, especially considering that they date from the 70s, before most musical groups even had videos. I was never a die-hard fan of the Swedish musical group, but I enjoyed what I heard during that era, so it's not too surprising that I "rediscovered" them now in my mature years, and I find I really enjoy their music, as do other members of my family. It's hard to resist the urge to get up and dance when they perform their lively numbers, and I'm not a natural dancer. I rediscovered ABBA largely as the result of watching the DVD of "Momma Mia," and I found myself humming and whistling some favorites all through the day, so I had to purchase a good DVD of the group, and I'm very satisfied with what I got. What can one say about the songs themselves? This collection includes most of their top hits. Some people aren't fans, so they shouldn't purchase it, but for everyone else, ENJOY, ENJOY!

The complete ABBA music videos!
I've read some reviews on a few ABBA dvd's of their music videos. I decided on the ABBA The Definitive Collection dvd, which plays ALL 30 of their music videos in chronological order. I didn't mind that the format was the standard 4:3 ratio, instead of the widescreen 16:9 ratio. I read that the 2002 re-release of this dvd had better sound. I'm not an audiophile, but it sounded fantastic to me! After track #30, it went right into the five bonus tracks. Personally, I hit pause for a moment, to remember the thirty music videos I had just watched, and then played the final five bonus tracks. ABBA made the right decision in holding these bonus tracks to the very end. The original thirty music videos seem to flow beautifully!

Cordialement.
