Great control built in for plunge depth steps
I work with hard woods such as hard rock maple from time to time- this plunge accessory was for setting up a fixed base Bosch 1617EVS to be used as a plunge router also. The plunge base was also setup with Bosch's template follower adapter, and the Bosch template guide part No. RA1111, which is not included in the template guide accessory kit. This combination works very well for deep controlled cuts, one step at a time, highly repeatable, in materials like 1-1/4" maple ply.

Great purchas
This base is a great addition to my router. Fit is great, despite other bad reviews that said the fit can be bad. Our router dropped right in and fits great. The functionality is great. Easy adjustability easy plunge action and the base fits exactly into my router sled.

Read this if you're having jerk and grab problems with this plunge base.
Did anybody post that this plunge router base can stick? More importantly, I did not see anybody post how to make it NOT stick. I finally know how to make mine work perfectly smoothly. Perhaps my experience will help somebody else? First of all, I tried two of these identical model Bosch plunge router bases because the first one I received was falling out of its inner box, the sub-base plate was deeply scratched and detached from the base AND when I tried depressing the handles the best plunge action I could obtain was jerk and grab, jerk and grab. Amazon exchanged it for a different, identical model with no problem and immediate shipping, the kind of service I have always received from Amazon. However, the second Bosch plunge router base had the same jerk and grab problem that the first one had. After using the second one for side entry cuts only I decided the thumb activated break was too short and too far away for my small hands and maybe insufficient pressure on the thumb break could be the cause of the jerk and grab. By the way, my right hand can't reach the on/off switch either. To turn the router off I have to retract the bit (no grabbing there), set the router down and let go of the handle to reach the switch. One star down from a small handed woman. Regardless, to give myself better control of the break I constructed a 1/2" thick, curved rubber cushion about 1.5" long which sticks out past the upper end of the thumb break and fixed it in place with strong double stick tape. This was great for lessening the stress on my thumb but did nothing whatsoever to solve the jerk and grab when trying to lower the router smoothly into a piece of wood. NOW FOR THE SOLUTION and I don't believe I read this anywhere in the documentation. Perhaps others have reported this solution as well but I found my solution just from trying and trying and trying to figure something out: If I depress the break with my left thumb and push down with more pressure from my right hand than my left, the base will either jerk and grab or will not descend at all. If I depress the break with my left thumb and push down with my LEFT hand, then apply a LITTLE downward pressure with my right hand I get a SMOOTH, EVEN descent of the bit into my work piece. So if your base is jerking and grabbing too, it can't hurt to try pushing down with your left hand and minimizing downward pressure with your right. It just might be more than a one shot deal solution for this base.

Nice addition to have for this router
Nice addition to have for this router. I have the D handle base and picked up this plunge base because I had to fabricate about 160' of fluted cornerboards for a home I was building. I found the base to be ergonomically comfortable and well designed, the fine adjustment and depth stop to be easy to use and accurate and the plunge action to be smooth and easy to activate/deactivate via the thumb lever. Nice tool.

Use for woodcarvings
I got this as an addition to a Bosch router I have been using. I am impressed with how easy it is to accurately rout wood panels. The plunge base allows easy adjustment for depth of cut and makes it simple to reproduce cuts (assuming you don't move the bit in the collet). I did add a large plexiglass base to the router to make visibility better and to keep the base on top of the wood panel.
