the first time I laid on my back on one of these at the physical therapist's office, I said to her "I'm getting one of these", which she heartily endorsed.It makes my whole chest area open up and relax, helping with my shoulder/arm pain, which was based on "shortened pecs".It's a little tricky to get on; I just sit on the edge at one end and then lay down, holding myself with my hand on the floor; then I can balance with my back muscles and let the front relax.my other therapist had me do this on the 55cm exercise ball, but it didn't give nearly the dramatic stretch that the roll didthere's much too much stooping and sitting and walking bent forward; I was getting a "pre-dowager's hump", so I must open the front area and learn to keep my shoulders back, and this thing helps.

The roller is made out of foam that is porous and leeches dye. As soon as the product arrived, I wiped it down with some paper towel and Seventh Generation household cleaner because I wanted to make sure it was clean before using. A bunch of blue dye came off onto the paper towel, and after several rounds of cleaning, the dye that came off lessened, but didn't totally stop coming off. Not only is this creepy because who wants blue dye staining their skin, but additionally, however "non-toxic" this roll is, the dye is a synthetic pigment that I don't want my body to have to come in contact with and filter out.Because it is porous, it will be difficult to disinfect and clean.The roller is firm, but has a little bit of give to it. I like the foam density as it is now, but will report back if the foam deteriorates over time. I've used it for massaging my legs and back after yoga. It's too soon to tell whether it helps, but I'll report back again if I notice a miraculous change.To deal with the dye leeching problem, I covered mine with some cotton spandex cloth. This solves the problem, but the product shouldn't have done this in the first place.
