Is this even worth it to upgrade from Cat5e for my router?

Depends on your internet and network speeds. Cat5e will do gigabit speeds and even do 2.5Gb speeds if you have a router/switch that supports it. If you have 1Gb or less from your ISP then Cat5e is fine If all of your devices are 1Gb ethernet then cat5e is fine If all of your wireless devices are 802.11a/b/g/n/ac then cat5e is fine. If you will be upgrading to 10Gb ethernet and/or Wifi6 devices then consider upgrading your cables to Cat 7 or 8. If you want to upgrade all of your cables for future speed upgrades then go with cat 7 or 8. Cat 8 supports faster connections but cat 7 is likely fine for most of us. If I were building a house then I would install all cat8 cable throughout. FYI: Cat 1 runs at 10kHz with speeds up to 1Mbps Cat 2 runs at 1Mhz with speeds up to 4Mbps Cat 3 runs at 16Mhz with speeds up to 10Mbps Cat 4 runs at 16Mhz with speeds up to 10Mbps Cat 5 runs at 100MHz with speeds up to 100Mbps Cat 5e runs at 100MHz with speeds up to 1Gbps Cat 6 runs at 250Mhz with speeds up to 1Gbps Cat 6a runs at 500MHz with speeds up to 10Gbps Cat 7 runs at 600Mhz with speeds up to 10Gbps Cat 8 runs at 2GHz with speeds up to 40Gbps
