It's important that the metal surface is prepped properly before applying as follows -1. Use wire brush to remove loose/rusted metal, peeling/flaking paint. I also ran Emory paper/sand paper over the metal surface.2. Use soap water or solvent to remove dust/grease etc.3. Dry well before applying Tuf-Kote.I applied 2-3 coats liberally. After drying, creates a solid primer-like barrier on the metal surface that can be painted. Good product.

Longevity of the coating & if rust really is converted remains to be seen but in the short term provides a strong protective coat.

Simplicity in using it, no diluents or additives, no necessity for a thoroughly cleaned surface other than a dirt free one, the quick result you get and the quality of the result,there are many reasons I like this product for. This is my second purchase. High quality product that converts the rusty material to a glistening brown colored one. Superb.

The qoating is dissolving in water. Poor quality. Not serving as a protective layer to the mils steel surface.

Initially I thought it wont work, but using it since 3 years and it works very well. The coat turns into a black color wherever you have rust and gives a glossy black finish and other places where rust is cleaned it gives a shiny glossy finish.. No further rusting happens. I used it on my child cycle, home tools like hammer, and other iron tools and its really good. I still have 60% left in the bottles. No need to re-apply as no rust formation is observed. Finish depends on to what extend you prepare the surface. If you clean it well with sand papers, the overall finish is good as if black primer (Glossy) is painted.

Yet to test it during long term use. Need to see if the protective layer still remains or comes out..

Shining black color and shining coat on non rusted area

It's more like a black paint or coating.Any rust converter I know based on phosphoric acid works much better than this.
