Buy this one FIRST
For me, the third time was the charm. I needed a switch to easily toggle between headphones and bookshelf speakers. I didn't want to wear out the headphone jack on my laptop constantly switching them back and forth, so I needed a device like this one.The first one I bought (another brand and model) was staticky when I'd switch. I couldn't stand it so I returned it. Then I bought one that cost a few dollars more. The reviews said it was "well made" and "constructed with good materials". When I got it, it was cheap plastic junk, and on top of that, my speakers buzzed when they weren't switched on using that box. So, try try again ... I bought this one. It cost more, but I should have just purchased this one first. It's made of heavy aluminum. The volume knob is solid and high quality, and best of all, there's ZERO scratchy noise when I switch, and there's no buzz when the speakers are switched off. This one is perfect. Don't waste your time on anything else. This is the headphone/speaker switch you want.

If you need it, buy it.
Easy to use. Especially, if you use speakers and headphones on single port devices. It allows you to switch without needing to switch audio without fuss. I have had it for over 1 year without issues.

Does what I needed
It does what I need it to do which is switch sound from two computers to a single amp and pair of speakers. I have no need for the volume knob or the mute button. I control volume from my keyboard and/or Windows and/or amplifier. The first unit I received was defective. The 1/2 select button was installed at a slight angle so when it was in the depressed position (in/out 1), the case blocked it from returning and clicking into its fully un-depressed position (in/out 2). It worked when I removed the top case because the button was free to move fully up and down. I returned it by dropping if off at Whole Foods Market and received a replacement very quickly. The second unit works fine.

Works great for controlling volume between my PC and powered speakers
Purchased this to replace the little puck volume control for my Monsoon speakers which finally died.It works probably better than the original from sound quality/attenuation perspective (not sure why people complain about attenuation issues?). It's pretty heavy - a good thing from a usability perspective as it sits on my desk.I appreciated that it came with a cable (albeit a bit to short for my application).Volume knob provides full range control (note that I'm using amplified speakers rather than a headphones)My only complaints:-as a desktop volume control, having input and output ports on same side of box would be more ergonomic and clean mounting than its design of inputs on one side and output on the other.-Mute button introduces an unpleasant hum during mute. Fortunately I just use the input switch button as I'm not using the other input for anything yet, and this is very silent. I may try to find a way to fix this.

THIS is the one you want to get. Trust me.
THIS is what I wanted when I was looking for a way to switch my headphones between two laptops, both running high-end audio editing/sequencing programs. I actually bought two different ones, the other came a day earlier and I was bummed because I didn’t think to order a 1/8”(3.5mm) male to male audio jack cable. I had one, but would need another to run from the output jacks on both MacBooks, into the box and my headphones into the front. The first box was relatively sleek, minimalist and has two small buttons on top, marked 1 & 2. It’s also very light as it’s made of plastic, but seemed to do the job. Then THIS one arrived today. First thing I noticed upon opening it was a high quality, woven covered audio jack cable. The next thing I noticed was the box itself. It is about half the size of what was already a pretty small (to me) splitter, but was made entirely of a durable, matte black metal. It has a great, solid feel and heft to it, there’s two small buttons on the top of the box, one on either side of a raised black, aluminum volume knob. One button allows you to switch between inputs and the other mutes all channels. This is just a really good mash-up of form and function. Worth every penny of its very inexpensive price!

Broken after 2 years
I understand that things break, but after using this consistently for less than two years, it just stopped working. I tried different cords, setups, and determined it was the switch that was broken. If you're good with this only working for 20 months, then go for it. I just thought something this simple would work beyond this amount of time.

Works Great!
I have an odd computer setup. I have a tower PC that connects to a TV and a Mac book laptop. The speakers I use are literal big stereo speakers I bought over 15 years ago. So my PC is for gaming and my Mac is for work. That being said, I wanted to be able to use my nice, but old, stereo speakers on BOTH computers without having to constantly fiddling with the cables. I tried an audio cable splitter but the sound output was off. my Mac would be fine, but my PC would be way to quite, even on max sound output. So I tried this audio switcher and it works great! I am able to easily and quickly switch between my PC and my Mac for sound and the switcher has a volume dial on it too which i never thought I would use, but I actually use it quite a bit with all the annoying audio level variants on different youtube channels. It works great! The only downside is that since this is a SWITCHER, I cannot have both my PC and Mac playing audio at the same time. I knew this when purchasing it and it was a hesitation for me getting the switcher, but in the end, I am really glad I got it.

Worked as expected, except for the noise....
This device worked exactly as expected, with the exception of the noise it appeared to generate.Quite easy to use, pretty self explanatory, and it did it all quite well other than the noise.Ground Loop Noise filter you say? Using one. Did not eliminate the noise, but did seem to tame it slightly.Cheap solution, and I dont use my speakers much so ill hang on to it, but if your looking for something with a bit of clarity/fidelity.... might want to upscale.
