It cuts like butter! Best Clipper I've ever used.
What a great pet hair clipper. I have never been this excited for a product, I had to write a review. I have a little 8 years old maltese. I gave him a monthly haircut since he was 3 months old, so I have given him 100+ haircuts so far. That's crazy when I put it that way. My first clipper was Andis cheap kit. It never worked well and just pushed the hair around. After about 2 years of use, I gave up. My second kit was Wahl 9590-210 Pro-series Complete Pet Clipper Kit - Corded or Cordless Operation. It was much better than the first set, but I never remembered to charge it over night before I use it and it does not keep the charge very long, so it was always out of battery. Consequently, I always used it as corded clipper. I thought it was as good as the clipper gets since it was much better than the first set. After about 6 years, it lost all its power and it does not cut anymore. I had to do a scissor cut last time. So I bought this Wahl 9484-300 U Clip Deluxe Pro Home Pet Grooming Kit since I really don't need the rechargeable option. I was shocked how well it cuts. I never understood when some people say it cuts like butter. It really does. It cuts so easily and effortlessly, I could not believe it. I missed out for nearly a decade thinking what I had was as good as it came. The only negative is that because this is too powerful, my dog is little more afraid when I try to trim his facial hair. I think he will get use to it, though. If you are frustrated with your dull underpowered clipper, get this one. I absolutely love it.

If you're looking for an excellent pair of clippers, look no further!
These clippers are AMAZING!!! I had no problem cutting my shih tzu puppy's hair. His hair was about 4 inches; long when I finally decided to cut it, and the clippers worked well. They did not get caught anywhere. My husband, who has been cutting his own hair for years, used them to cut his hair and couldn't believe how well they worked. Yes, this is me telling on my husband :-). He paid much more money for his hair clippers than I paid for these, and these work better than his expensive clippers. My only suggestion to first-time do-it-yourselfers is to be gentle with the clippers when the attachments are on. They are very hard and without knowing it, it is easy to be rough and not realize you're being too rough. I've never cut a dog's hair before, and I was about halfway finished with his back and one side when I accidentally touched my arm with the clipper attachment and realized just how rough they could be. I wasn't hurting him while I was cutting his hair at first, but I'm sure the first couple of swipes with the clippers were not a comfortable experience for him. The DVD was a great help, although they could have been more specific with each breed. They explained everything on the first dog they cut, but then only did really quick (2-3 minute videos) of each of the other breeds. However, for my shih tzu, the body was shaved, while the face, legs, and paws were where the most technical detail was needed. The DVD did cover the face--but for more detailed instructions on the paws, you need to watch some of the other cuts on some of the other breeds. Finally, I would make sure to use the apron they send. I did not--the only experience I had with clippers prior to cutting my puppy was shaving my brother's head (no attachments, on the shortest setting with only about 1/4 inch; of hair to cut, ha ha)--and I was covered in hair! **Update: I used the apron that came with the set, and it did help keep hair away -- for the most part. However, the clasp at the top does not hold the strap that goes around the neck well, and the strap often comes loose. To prevent this from happening, I just tied the end of the strap around the part of the strap that is above the clasp. This keeps the strap from slipping through the clasp.

New at clipping and I am Highly Satisfied!
2015 Update...I have had these clippers for almost a year...I would still recommend these clippers with some things to consider. We have used these clippers many times on our dog in the year that we have owned the clipper. It still works with ease with or without the attachments on our dog's coat, and it does a good job. However, It has however gotten much louder throughout the year...which I don't love. So I make sure to give many treats to our dog to help ease the experience. The blade also has gotten loose so be sure to tighten it up. Also make sure to oil it as well. Overall, I still recommend, but keep in mind it can get louder as time goes on. Powerful, Durable, Reasonably priced...so far very satisfied! I would say that I am very hands on with my dogs...bathing, clipping fur, nails, etc., however I am not a professional nor have I EVER groomed any of my dogs with a clipper. This was my first time buying and using a clipper and I am very impressed! The biggest concern I had in ordering this clipper was the sound...so as not to scare my dog....I read the reviews and people stated it was quiet but I just couldn't imagine what the sound would be like. The comfort of my dog is top priority. Most dog's I know, including mine, don't love being groomed and they don't love loud scary noises. So I must say I am pleasantly surprised at the low hum on this clipper. Quite honestly the loudest noise was turning the unit on, for some reason it is a very loud click, which my dog did take notice to. Not sure if that noise will subside with using the unit...maybe it is just super tight from the factory...If they could fix/change that in any way though, that would be great. That being said, I also garnered the assistance of my husband as well for this first endeavor clipping for extra hands on for movement by my dog for safety, but I am sure I can do it by myself down the road. I also did watch the video first for help/instruction...decent video...slightly dated, however. I should also mention when it arrived I was concerned as I opened the box the cover said for fine/thin/medium hair only and since I didn't see that, or I missed that, on the Amazon website...I thought perhaps I ordered the wrong type clipper for our dog's coat...He is a mixed breed and his coat varies...some thin, some medium and also some coarse fur. But this clipper with the various attachments worked like a charm. We showed him the clipper first...let him smell it, we rubbed it against his body while it was off a few times, praised him, gave him a treat, and then we went to work with it on. Yes we also employed food/treats as our dog is food motivated, so with the help of some steak (yep we pulled out the ultimate tastiest treat) we were able to groom him with relative ease. Again, our goal is/was to keep our dog as comfortable as possible also while getting him used to this so we will be able to eventually do it without food/etc. because our dog will hopefully be fully accepting of it. It did get slightly warm/hot while grooming after 15 minutes or so, so just be aware of that. I ordered an extra bottle of oil to go with this from WAHL as well to keep this clipper in good condition as the oil you get with the kit is very small. I love the various attachments included and I did use them all. They are very easy to attach. The box to keep them in is ok...better than no box but would be better if it had compartments. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase mostly because my dog's comfort was top priority and I was able to get that with this clipper. Lastly it will save me money in the long run as generally, in our area, it costs $65 or more for the dog to get clipped so I am very pleased that this is a good option for us. I have to say that I would highly recommend this clipper! Great purchase!

My Aussie actually lets me use this on her
These clippers are superb value. My aussie began getting deep matts close to the skin and brushing it out completely just wasn't going to happen. She is skittish of motorized noises but she tolerates this. It also has a #7 guard which means we can "shave" her without her looking shaved, so her coat and skin are still protected by 1"-1.5" of coat length. Aussies are not supposed to be shaved short so this guard length was the reason we bought this clipper set. That said, the clipper guards are a bit flimsy and they do snag her coat even after brushing. But it is not severe and does not really diminish effectiveness. It takes around 45 minutes for me to shave her back and sides on a #7, her legs on a #3 or #4, and her chest on a #6. The clippers do get hot around the time we finish up. This has saved us so much money and hassle. Our aussie handles it really well now (we use it monthly, so around 8x so far). But my husband actually started using these clippers when his beard trimmer bit the dust and he prefers these to his regular trimmer now! This set comes with decent shears (not good for overall coat but does help with paw fur and leg-torso creases), 7 guards, 3 clipper head settings, clipper oil and cleaning brush, and a carry case. The noise is not quiet but not horrendous either. The only noise that actually is bothersome is the distinct popping sound of the power lever when you turn the clippers on and off.

Worth every penny.
These work really well. Kinda heavy for your hand when used for a long period of time. Doesn't get hot as quickly as others I've used. It seems the handle gets hot before the blades do, which is perfect. Because then you can get the unbearable heat before your dog does. With other clippers I have used, the blades have always gotten piping hot and quite fast.plus you could never tell until you touched yourself with blade to actually see how hot it is. These cool down fairly quickly too. The variety of attachments is a big plus. I have a poodle and prefer to shave him to the skin and leave pom poems around his legs, tail, head and ears. It works great without any attatchments, which I mainly what I look for. I also love how it comes with scissors and a comb. And its all in a nice hard plastic storage case. It's an awesome product for the price. It's really a bargain for this product, coming from someone who has tried many lower priced clippers, these feel like heavy duty, good quality clippers. The best out of all I have tried so far. Definitely get your money's worth.

Three years later with light use and it still works properly
We purchased this clippers in 2017 and it is still working well 3 years later but it has only been used less than 10 times. We tried this on our 6lb long haired persian, our 40+lb field english springer spaniel, and my husbands thick Italian fro. The device itself - is heavy. It is a solid clipper and it did cramp up my hand a few times. Its a lot heavier than I expected it to be. It also gets very hot after a short period of time. For my cat - only attempted once because my cat hated the clipper. With her being so petite, the clipper was very bulky. She was aggravated by the cord attached to the clipper and it was hard to maneuver with her being semi-uncooperative. For our dog - This was an okay unit for our dog clipping wise. It did get clogged easily and needed numerous pauses during session to unclog the clipper. It would probably have worked better if we maybe trimmed it shorter first and then went in to buzz it all off. Either way that would have been more of a hassle. But again this thing is heavy, and gets very hot. Our dog is very cooperative during this. She actually falls asleep and needs to be woken up to roll over or change positions. This clipper does not scare her at all. my hubby - my husband has a really crappy work schedule and his barber is not open on the weekends so he can only get in to last minute appointments if he gets done with work early and when he is not able to he uses this clippers. His hair is short but very coarse, brissle-like and thick and has no issues with it. The main purpose of us buying this was to save costs on grooming. Both our cat and dog go to the groomers 2-3 times a year and its around $50 each time. My cat has been going the last 10 years and over time has became more resistant to the grooming place. I just dont want to put her through it anymore and would prefer to just do it myself. Unfortunately 3 years later, we could only use this 1x on our cat and went back to the groomers. I am currently on the search for a new clipper. The star rating is due to bulk, weight, overheating, and ease of use. If this was soley for dog grooming a few times a year I would say this is a decent clipper for you. If your looking for a long haired cat clipper, i do not recommend

A Timeless Staple
Update November 23, 2019: After 4 excellent years I decided to see if technology and competition had made these clippers obsolete. My blades finally wore out, I purchased a cheap off brand replacement and it didn't go well. So I bought two other brands one less expensive and one more. Both were huge disappointments. So in spite of some varying reviews I purchased these clippers again. These clippers still go through my lhasa's fur like butter. They are quieter than my last set. With care they can cut out the occasional tangle or little mat. While he is not very cooperative, I still feel like I achieve an acceptable cut. I appreciate that these clippers can still handle lion level manes. I'll be sure to update if needed. After years of use I am happy to recommend these without reservation. August 2015: This product has revolutionized the way that I groom my dog. I should preface this by saying that my dog HATES having his hair cut, and groomers have always over stressed him. He is a Lhasa Apso. Here is my breakdown for the product: It comes in a nice case. The apron is cheap material but effective. It has a variety of sizes as well as an oil and brush to clean your new clippers. The comb is basic and works on my dog's coat very nicely. I also liked the scissors with the rounded tip to protect my dog in case he has a quick/startled movement. The video is honestly a great bonus. It went over cleaning, lubricating, prepping your dog, and grooming styles. The video is short and to the point. I found the tips to be very helpful throughout the process of grooming my dog. The clippers themselves are amazing! The tool has just enough weight to feel sure in your hand. The noise and vibration level is very manageable. The noise level didn't scare my dog, and the vibration didn't bother my hand. The vibration of the clipper actually tickled my dog at times, and he is normally very nervous about clippers. This set shaved the time it takes to groom my dog in half. It reduced the stress levels for me and my dog. He looks absolutely adorable! This tool is budget and pet friendly. If you have a dog that is stressed easily or does not do well with grooming this is the tool for you.
