Are replacement flasks available for purchase?

Hydrapak Seeker compatible flasks can be purchased separately. I got the larger 2L.

How is swishing water inside cleaning the filter? Wouldn't that just redistribute bad stuff around instead of it actually leaving the filter?

The agitation loosens the debris from the filter. It’s the same action as backflowing a Sawyer. The Katadyn filter is exposed and moves more freely allowing debris to fall out . But for a long trip this should only be a back up it is fragile.

going overseas and will not be able to drink tap water. Can I fill this from tap and assume I can then drink the water?

I would say yes. However, I like to treat a liter of tap water with a chorine tablet each evening so that I have a full liter of purified water every day. I think the Katadyn tube holds less than a half liter.

Can you use purifying tablets/drops in the bottle along with the filter in place?

You probably can, but why? The point of this filter/bottle is that it purifies water to 0.1 microns. This takes care of all cysts, Protozoa, bacteria etc.
