Q: The cheese grater looks too small to be effective. Any comments or experiences?

The cheese grater part sucks, had to do it by hand because the device to hold the cheese does not have long enough spikes. All the other functions are good though.

Q: How many cups does the container hold?

You know, that is a good question. I just measured the container with water and it holds about 6 1/2 cups, up to almost overflowing. Not sure how that equates to dry measurements, however, that should give you an idea. I have cut up onions, carrots and green pepper together in the container and still had plenty of room for double the amount. Good luck. Hope this helps. P.S. I love this mandoline. Be sure to purchase extra protective gloves like the one that comes with the mandoline. I need more than one as I am usually cutting up other items for my recipe, such as meats (not with the mandoline!). The protective gloves must air dry so I have purchased several pairs. A MUST for people like me who seem to cut myself just looking at a knife!
