Moen 4000 Single Handle Replacement Cartridge

OK, apparently this cartridge is not as popular as the 1255, as it was nowhere to be found at big- or small-box HW stores in San Diego. Nonetheless, Amazon came through in less than a day. The Moen product comes with an instruction sheet in the box, which has the necessary tricks to get the thing changed out. A 3/32” Allen wrench, small, is crucial to get the handle set screw loose. Also, the little red o-ring (Mickey Mouse shape) may remain in the faucet body, so a small seal pick, such as the OTC Tools 7312 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P70QPW is a handy way to extract the seal, if needed. The whole thing is a really quick fix with the 4000 cartridge. And no drips now. Yay!

The part was as described (hence 4 stars and providers service), however as with another consumer, it did not solve the leak from faucet spout. I called Moen (I was too impatience with leaking to all them 1st-mistake!) and learned I needed additional part (identified as a kit) though it was the single part that is the diverter which positions below the cartridge. Without any hassle they sent both needed parts, free, including any shipping costs, and their parts solved the problem entirely. Moen is easy to deal with, though if you do not know name of your product, you would do well to go on their site and look at the features that define your faucet so you will be prepared for the call. Do not be frustrated by all the designs, as you can at least narrow down your model if, like mine, I could not locate the model number. Their site tells you locations of numbers. I had been to big box store to get cartridge before deciding to order. I do not recall seeing the kit part being available, and in fact, store employee advised me they did not even carry the cartridge because there are too many faucet makers and too many styles by each manufacturer for them to carry all replacement parts.

Its a genuine Moen. Install it and call it a day. NOTE: There is an issue with the kitchen sink faucet that this cartridge goes in. The 2 large thin "gaskets" at the top and bottom of the spout can go bad. I still haven't figured out how.. as they look perfectly fine when this happens, but I replace those hard thin gaskets with the equivalent sized Orings, with a generous coating of Radiator Specialty Plumbers Grease, and the faucet no longer leaks around the spout base. If this is your issue, this cartridge won't help you. This cartridge fixes a faucet dripping out the aerator at the end of the spout, NOT at the base of the spout.

My faucet started to leak right at the handle. It was slow over time but recently you could tell it was ready to call it quits. It's super easy to access with some allen wrenches, pops right in and you are back in business.

Good instructions and perfect fit. 15 minutes for a faucet to work like new for around $10. The most difficult part was making sure I found the correct cartridge before ordering.

Not sure why it was so difficult to get this to us (took months), but when we finally got it and installed it, it stopped the faucet leak.
