Fisher-Price My Little Snugabear Cradle 'n Swing

This swing is the best baby item we have purchased. Other customers have jokingly called it 'the nanny', and I could not agree more.I worked as a daycare teacher and we had many baby swings, but none were even remotely comparable to the snugabear. This swing is a little on the large side, so definitely not something you want to purchase if you plan to move it from room to room, but perfect as a stationary fixture. People's main complaint seems to be in regards to the loudness of the motor, which, to be fair, IS loud, but not at all in an obtrusive or annoying way. This is a heavy-duty, solid swing, and I think the sound of the motor is proportionate to the size of the swing itself. In my opinion, I would go so far as to say the rhythm of the motor is almost soothing.There are six speeds to choose from, and while I dont feel that there is a significant difference from one level to the next, we have found that four bars is a happy median - not too slow, not too fast. I love that you can swivel the swing so that the baby is rocked forward to back or side to side. I use the side to side option the most, but I use the front to back when I want him to be able to see out the window. My son is very entertained by his reflection in the dome, as well as by the rotating owls. There are three different song settings: one for bed time, one for day time, and one for soothing nature sounds. The speaker on the swing is great, and we like to set it at the loudest volume because then we can vaccuum, move furniture, cook, etc, without startling him awake. The seat is set at a comfortable recline, and the material is soft and warm and easy to clean. The swing was easy to assemble, the instructions were comprehensive, and it took me about an hour to build, on my own, AND while taking care of my son.This swing is seriously a LIFE CHANGER. If we could recommend one item to 'splurge' on other than the necessities, THIS would be it. This swing gives me the opportunity to put my newborn down long enough to pee, haha, which is AMAZING as the parent of a newborn. I love this swing SO much that we bought one in 'midnight meadow' for my best friend who is due in May.Totally worth the five stars! Would absolutely recommend!

I was skeptical of buying this swing. We have a tiny apartment, and had previously tried a "compact spaces" fold up swing. Our baby let us know in no uncertain terms that she did NOT like it. Then, some other new baby parents invited us over for dinner, which coincided with her Daily Screaming Time, and they suggested we try putting her in their sons' Snugabear swing. She screamed for a few more minutes, and then got distracted by the mobile, settled down, and miracle of miracles, FELL ASLEEP. That's right, no hours of shushing and bouncing and rocking by us, just shut her tiny adorable eyes and drifted off. My husband was then convinced that we needed one. I was still dubious, figuring maybe it was a one off, or she had just screamed herself into exhaustion, and as I mentioned before, our apartment is pretty cramped as is. Eventually I gave in, and we ordered it. For three days in a row now we have been able to put her down for a nap when she's looking sleepy, and she falls asleep! She is three months old, and is getting to the point where she no longer likes being swaddled, and wants to have her hands free to suck on, but if we put her down in the crib while she's still awake (as recommended by literally every source on how to get your baby to be good at sleeping), she flails and can't get to sleep. The snug cradle is just enough snugness to keep her limbs under control, but still allows her to self soothe. While the footprint is fairly large, the design is nice and open, and it doesn't feel like it takes up too much space.Highly recommend, even one good nap a day is 1-2 hours where I can have my hands free to do other things. This is our 2nd fisher price swing. We had the Snugabunny and eventually the motor died. Fisher price was great about replacing that part and shipped it to us in a couple weeks time. Then the second motor seemed to overheat. I walked by the swing and smelled a burning plastic smell and the swing had come to a stop. This was with a 15 or 16 lbs baby (well within recommended limits). The motor casing felt warm to the touch. So, again I called Fisher price. This time they were willing to send a check for about half the cost of a swing but not replace any parts or entire swing. I thought about getting a different brand since I've already had two problems with this line of swings but my baby LOVES the mirror and spinning mobile. This swing is also nice and high off the ground so I don't need to kneel down to put the baby in. I would recommend never leaving baby in swing for long naps, keeping on level surface (not half on and half off an area rug), never having loose blankets hanging off the side as they seem to put the swing off balance, making sure your baby is not trying to sit up in swing as not only is that unsafe but again could put the swing off balance and probably kill the motor. Basically anything that seems to slow the swing down or make a funny noise will likely kill your motor. For while it lasts though this swing is awesome! Seems to run a little loud but we have it on hardwood floors and it would probably be a bit quieter on carpet.
