The Fifth Gospel

A very unusual book. fascinating on the insights on the Vatican and on the Gospels. The central theme of the book, the unexplained death of a researcher is intriguing, and the twists and turns justifies the thriller description. I did find the book hard going and it took me a long time to get through, which is unusual for me. I did find the ending disappointing - almost as if the author did know just how to end it. The police seem at once to not understand the killing and at teh end appear to know what happened.Despite this I would recommend this well written book

I really wanted to like this book. It is well written but about half way through I started to get bogged down and even rather bored. The hero/anti hero is an unlikely figure and I found myself losing interest by the end. Could have been so much better.

Interesting idea and went with it to the end but found myself skipping quite a few sections as some of it felt overly long winded whilst not adding to the emotive flow to of the story.

I read a review of The Fifth Gospel before buying it. The review likened it to an up-market version of The Da Vinci Code, but I didn`t find this at all.It was a more complex story altogether and the author is clearly extremely well informed re. the Gospels. I found this fascinating- his comparison of the Gospels- and not having read them since I was a child, it has encouraged me to re-read them. A very thought provoking and interesting read.

Great book & really well written. Not really packed with action but really detailed & clever. I learnt quite a bit which was a bonus.
