Q: Does this have an alert for when you need to refill the water reservoir like the Keurig classic?

It will say on top to add water. Plus the tank itself is clear, so you can see what the water level is. I get 4-5 12oz cups before I need to refill it. Hope this helps.

Q: What is the height with the k cup insert lid open?

My cabinets are 18" from the counter and mine fits perfectly. I measured the open K-cup holder at 17.25"
