Does this specify alkaline C batteries only or can it use any type of C batteries, such as NiMH?

Mine did not specify anything but if you're serious enough to contemplate rechargeables then you're probably going to find this product well below your standards. It's functional but due to the cheap construction and materials both of mine broke internally before the 1st set of batteries ran out. Think of it as a toy and you won't be disappointed.

How long is the c cell flashlight?

Its a 2 c cell flashlight. i would guess 8 inches overall

Does it have the colored lenses?

yes red,blue,amber. I also got the LED bulb replacement ! batteries last longer and bulb has years longer life.

Can the included lightbulb be replaced with an LED bulb commonly sold for converting flashlights?

Yes, I took my led bulb out of my mag light that uses two D cell batteries and put it in this flash light. It works great.
