Great to start with
Brilliant phone. Perfect size. Perfect signal. BUT. The proximity sensor stopped working a month in. Which means it doesn’t go dark when at your ear. Your ear changes all the settings when on the phone. Second disaster is the face unlock stopped working. Contacted ASUS and they tried a couple of things and now I need to send it abroad somewhere to be fixed, leaving me with no phone until it returns. And if they discover or claim it’s user damage I need to pay the import and export duty plus the repair. I’m now scared to send it away. I’ll just need to suffer it. Stick to known brands

Good compact phone, but fingerprint reader let's it down
I bought this phone as I was looking for a small phone. Android phones from other manufacturers seem to all be massive these days. I want a phone not a tablet. This phone performs reasonably quickly, 5G works well, the screen sharp and it's small enough to fit in my jeans pocket. The audio is way better than my previous phone. The fingerprint reader isn't good, but just about works. With or without a screen protector, it can take several attempts to recognise my fingers and sometimes gives up and requires a pin. It keeps saying the reader is dirty, but that's clearly rubbish. I didn't have this issue with my old Nokia 8. Face recognition works well though if it's not dark and you can always use a pin number. I've had issues finding screen protectors that are the correct size. Most of them were a couple of millimetres too narrow. It's obvious this phone isn't considered a priority from the accessories manufacturers, so the range available is limited. I connected it to Virgin Mobile. Phone calls worked, but mobile data didn't work out the box. I had to manually set the Access Point Name settings. Virgin don't have a dedicated page on their site for this phone, but their Google/Generic Android settings seem to work. Battery life is good enough to last me all day and then some. There are a range of options for charging, to balance charge speed against battery degradation, but it will be a year or two before I know how effective they are. In summary, if you're looking for a smallish Android phone this isn't a bad buy, but expect some teething problems.

Avoid
Battery life awful from the start. Light sensor doesn't work so you have to manually adjust the contrast all the time. And otherwise it's glitchy as hell. Don't buy. It's a rip off . I bought a better phone for £200 less 3 years ago. How's that for progress?

Not as good as Zenphone 6.
While more compact than other zenphones I have found battery life to be very poor and fingerprint reader also poor, as it takes 5 attempts to recognise fingerprint. Very disappointing

Terrible battery life.
Loved this phone when I first got it. Unfortunately now there is no more software updates, the cracks are starting to show. Dwst auto connect to WiFi / WiFi devices and the battery is awful. Can't get through half a day without needing to recharge it.

Asus change specs in order to refuse to honour warranty terms
Device was working Ok for 6 months before getting slightly exposed to water when it effectively died. While device was actively marketed as IP68 compliant (read waterproof), ASUS conveniently removed reference to this feature from it website (albeit left references to it on its site and in Google searched) not to be responsible for device failures in cases like mine. When approached for warranty service ASUS asked to send the device to authorise repairman who conveniently rushed put the blame on myself without even checking the specs and recognising them and quoted outrageous costs to repair the item or send it back. Asus itself also refused to recognise specs Won't trust this fraud brand again, treat their customers like dirt... Better buy Samsung ot Chinese brands
