Can this be easily removed to allow others to use the toilet?

Yes, it is easy to remove and install. There is a knob on the front of the seat that is used to tighten and loosen it, and it takes just a few seconds to install or remove the seat. On most standard toilets, the original seat can be left on when the Carex seat is used.

I have I standard round toilet. Does the existing toilet seat have to be removed to place this riser on it?

In the case of my elongated toilet I did not have to remove the lid or seat. Both are raised and the seat attaches to the toilet itself. I had hip surgery and this has been a fabulous help. I am 6'7" and 315 pounds and it has held up with no problems.

No you don't have to remove the original toilet seat, but you do have to lift both the seat and cover to the raised position. You can then attach the Carex to the porcelain bowl and tighten the seat accordingly.
