Triops Triassic Triops Eggs and Nutrient

They hatched! Anyone who knows a bit about these knows even if u follow the directions completely they don't always hatch. The last 2 orders none hatched (I did everything the directions said, exactly). I thought if they don't hatch I will clean the water, and add some guppies or send a envelope with 1$ for replacement eggs. These things are neat, and fun to watch grow. I washed, a 5gal fish tank, rinsed with regular water, and then rinsed it with distilled water (brand with no chemicals in it), did the same with a fish tank heater. Filled the tank with what distilled, and spring water I had left. Boiled tap water let it cool, and added that to the tank. I added natural shells, rocks, and bamboo rinsed the same way. Tank sat heating for about 3 days before the Triops arrived, and I added them. Heater set on 85F. I also used boiled cooled water to rinse 1 aquatic plant seed, and moss balls. Those are in the same tank. 24 hours later hatched eggs, and though very tiny we can see a few swimming around! I added the natural items to the tank as a bit of a experiment to see if the Triops survive long enough will they lay eggs, and will those hatch. If they do survive I am a bit worried they might eat the moss balls, lol. It is very important to use the right water. I was not sure that boiling the water, and letting it cool would still create habitat that they would hatch in. Will up date, and try to add a pic if they grow larger. Update: Day 3/4 still alive. Update: After a few days the bigger ones are the smaller ones despite being fed, and then a few days after that I had someone else feed them, they over fed them, and they are all dead now.

Fascinating, educational, and fun! The instructions were very thorough and I successfully hatched at least 10 triops, though only one survived to adult size, likely because of cannibalism. This kit is perfect if you already have a suitable aquarium, lighting, and other accessories. The kit did not include a "lime stone" as stated in the instructions, but I used seashells instead. I would definitely buy again, but although the instructions did not specify this, I would put each triops into a separate aquarium as soon as they can be safely handled.

First of all, these require a lot of additional supplies. I spent close to $30 on a tank, water, heat source, etc. After reading other reviews, and researching triops care elsewhere, I did use distilled water, as this appears to be the more common recommendation (the included limestone provides the minerals the triops need, and using distilled rather than spring water avoids other minerals that may inhibit their growth), but otherwise followed the directions meticulously. The temperature has stayed in the low 80s, and I have a full-spectrum lamp directly above the tank. After nearly a week, nothing has hatched. I may give them a few more days, but I doubt anything is going to hatch. I may try a different triops kit, or, since I now have most of the components for a small fish tank (I just need an oxygen source, filter, and fish food), I might just get some fish instead (probably a Betta fish, or maybe a couple goldfish or something -- I have had fish before, and I do understand what I'd be getting myself into, but it's not really a huge amount of work -- I've had all sorts of pets over the years, and aside from Sea Monkeys, fish are some of the easiest).

We haven't had any luck hatching these unfortunately. My son was so excited to get them but I don't know what we're doing wrong. We've followed the instructions but haven't had any live ones after 2 tries. We have a few more eggs left to try but we're waiting for the summer in case the water isn't staying warm enough. They look cool so I hope we have some luck on our last try.

I can't believe these packets are so hard to find - you'd think they would be in the checkout line at Petco, they're so easy and interesting. All you need is a fishbowl, a desk lamp, a fishbowl thermometer, and a jug of filtered water, and boom, you have a couple of weeks worth of entertainment. There are a few days of anticipation ("Mom, when are they gonna hatch?"); then a few exciting days of watching the tiny critters emerge and eat each other; then several more days of watching the sole survivor change and shed his exoskeleton and grow like crazy and swim around like a frenzied eating machine; then another week or so in which he sedately eats his chow and meanders around his bowl. Then there is the burial ceremony. The cycle of life in a nutshell, folks, you've got to love it.

Found the best way to grow them is if you already have an established aquarium use some of that water. BE PATIENT!! it took a week or so before i got any of them to hatch, and most of them died but the ones that did survive were incredibly entertaining for about 3 months before they died, and man do they grow QUICKLY!! they start out as this little white bouncing speck that doubles in size, i kid you not OVER NIGHT! i would go to bed and they would be about(............) this big and the next day (.........................) it was amazing watching them grow and swim and im an adult, im sure children would love these! when their food ran out i just fed them regular fish food and they lived their normal lifespan. will probably order more later on to gift to my little cousins.

Great product, I will probably order again. They hatched within 24 hours. I wanted to inform people that the tank/container they're kept in needs to be very clean. I used an old air pump I had in a closet for a while, and there was a miniscule, almost invisible amount of dust that came from the tube, settling on the bottom of the tank. I thought it would be fine to remove later, believing that there's probably alot of debris in their natural environment. Alot of them were trapped within it, and seem to have died. The product is of good quality, and for some reason theres a pack of "Marvel" comics trading cards included with the eggs and food, which is pretty strange, but awesome. 5 stars +1 for the cards. I would also like to point out to the people that reviewed that their "eggs hatched, and the animals died a few days later" that it's doubtful that the distributor is somehow programming them to die after a few days. Theyre pretty sensitive to water conditions in their larval stage, and the "seemingly insignificant" discrepancies between their natural environment and a small plastic container on your kitchen counter will kill them. once they hatch, its the keepers responsibility to provide them with a suitable habitat. They're marketed as children's toys, but they're complex organisms with specific maintenance needs.

There was a small plastic vial that was supposed to have 50 eggs in it.now I have been raising brine shrimp for a year and there was not more than 10 triop eggs in that vial and the lid was not even shut all the way,they could not have spilt out because the food and the eggs were in a sealed plastic bag,whoever put those eggs in did not put the proper amount of eggs in the vial .not happy at all!!!
