This core box servers as an introduction to the Arkham Horror LCG and it does so very well. The first mini campaign is pretty good and gives a nice feeling for the game in general. Package came a little bit damaged but nothing serious.

It's a great game that gets better the more you play it and understand it's rules and mechanics. This campaign however is relatively short, with only 3 scenarios, the first one being just a small introduction to the game's core mechanics. The story overall is not amazing, it's a straight path to an obvious conclusion. This is punctuated by the lack meaningful decision making story-wise and no branching paths. Nevertheless the game's mechanics does a great job to make it feel a bit more engaging, though in the end it cannot hide the simplicity of the game's story. It is important to remind you that this a core set, meaning that its purchase is required if you intend on getting any other campaign. The replay value of this campaign spawns from it's hard difficulty (challenging even on easy mode), which forces players to retry different party comps as well as different decks styles. This can make for a very engaging and rewarding experience, that gets better and better. You should see this core set more of a teaser/preview of the real game that is offered through the expansion packs. Its's a game for those who like a challenge, and love min-maxing stats and micro managing, in that regard the core set would provide you with hours and hours of fun. If however you are just interest in the campaign/story part of it, you may come out a bit disappointed, feeling that its too little for the price tag. For new players that are starting out with this set my two pieces of advice would be: 1- don't go into it expecting to "Win" every scenario, this will only frustrate you and hinder your experience. 2- Before your first game, do some deck building the starter decks are not great, which makes an already difficult game even harder. I hope this review helps you

If you’re playing Arkham Horror: The Card Game solo, you have to run at least two investigators—and honestly, that’s part of the fun. It’s like being the director and the lead actors in your own Lovecraftian mystery—twice the decisions, twice the tension, and twice the satisfaction when you survive by the skin of your teeth. The game shines as a narrative experience. Each scenario plays out like a chapter in an unfolding horror novel, with branching paths and real consequences that carry over into future scenarios. When you’re playing two-handed, you can build decks that complement each other—one investigator focusing on clue gathering and support, the other on monster-smashing and damage control. The synergy feels great, and it’s genuinely rewarding to watch your “team” develop over time. The difficulty is no joke. The chaos bag can turn a sure win into a desperate scramble in seconds, and the game doesn’t pull punches with its story twists. But that unpredictability is part of the charm—it makes every victory feel hard-earned. Component quality is excellent, the rulebook is clear once you learn the flow, and the amount of replayability is enormous thanks to different investigators, deck-building choices, and branching story paths. If you enjoy immersive storytelling, tense decision-making, and the occasional “how did we survive that?” moment, Arkham Horror: The Card Game is one of the best solo/two-handed experiences you can buy. Just be ready to lose... a lot.
