Ring Side Report-Board Game Review of Sushi Go!
Originally posted at www.throatpunchgames.com, a new idea everyday! Product- Sushi Go! Producer- Gamewright Price- ~$13 here http://www.amazon.com/Sushi-Go-Pick-Pass-Card/dp/B00J57VU44/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1419311517&sr=8-1&keywords=sushi+go Set-up/Play/Clean-up- 30 minutes (2 to 5 players) TL; DR- Quick family fun. 90% Basics-Hungry for some more quick sushi games? Sushi Go! is a simple family card game that follows many of the same drafting mechanics popular in 7 Wonders and Among the Stars. Players start with a hand of cards and choose a card. All players reveal their chosen cards simultaneously. Some cards are instant point cards like nigiri cards. Other cards are worth more as you gain more of the same card like dumplings. Yet others need a specific number of cards of one type to get any points like tempura where every two score points. And some are worth more depending who has the most of them at the end of the game. There are also wasabi that multiply other cards, and the chopsticks card. If players have a chopstick card, they can shout "Sushi Go!" and take a second card from the same hand of cards. After selecting your card for the round, you pass the cards to the left. When you only have two cards, you choose one card, and then throw the other into the center. After three total hands like this, players determine who has the most points and is the winner. Mechanics- I like a good drafting game. This one plays quick and teaches even quicker. My sister who can't read scored as many points as I did while my mom scored the least points. It's a blast to play and won't require encyclopedic knowledge of some obscure rules. 5/5 Theme- Here is where the game suffers. I don't get the feeling I get from Wasabi of being a chef. This game has cute sushi, but beyond the box and the art, there isn't really a story here. If story doesn't matter to you, then this game is great. 3/5 Instructions- The instructions are a single booklet that's less than ten pages. It doesn't take much to learn and play this game. 5/5 Execution- The cards are decent quality and the whole game comes is a metal tin. The art is great and all cutesy. And for less than 15 bucks? Well worth the price of admission. 5/5 Summary- This game has the family board game awards all wrapped up, and I can see why. It's cheap, easy to play, and doesn't require a ton of priming to get into. It's a great intro board game that doesn't break the bank and travels well too. 90%

An easy to learn, fun to play family game
We bought this based on recommendations from friends and family who play games with their children and the rules couldn’t be easier to learn. There is some strategy though! You have to think ahead and every round is different depending on what the other people playing are trying to do, making for good variety from round to round and requires adaptation. The game is very fun, the cards are adorable, and young and old (and everyone in between) can enjoy playing this game. The cards are high quality and the tin is nice for storing the cards, and doesn’t wear down like the boxes that card games usually come in. We’re glad to add this one to our collection and recommend it for yours too!

Fast, Fun, and Perfect for All Ages!
Sushi Go! has quickly become one of our favorite go-to games for family game night and casual get-togethers with friends. The cards are high quality and the tin box makes it easy to store and carry. Gameplay is super simple to learn but surprisingly strategic. The concept of "pick and pass" keeps everyone engaged, and rounds go by quickly, making it perfect for multiple plays in one sitting. It strikes a great balance between luck and skill, and there's enough to keep things interesting even after many rounds. We’ve played it with just two people and with eight — it’s always a blast! If you're looking for a light, fun, and quick game that works for all ages, Sushi Go! is a must-have!

Great game for new gamers
If you're considering purchasing this item now, and if money is no object, you should look to Sushi Go Party instead. Sushi Go Party! Card Game Sushi Go! Is a great game, but Sushi Go Party is basically everything Sushi Go! is and more. I have heard rumors that the quality of the card stock used in Sushi Go Party is a bit worse than what is used in Sushi Go!, but I've never handled the Party edition so I can't say for certain. I can say that the card stock used in Sushi Go! is great. Sushi Go! is a "pass and play" game, and the first of it's type that I had ever tried. Basically everyone starts with a handful of cards, decides one to play, and passes the rest of the cards (all the ones they decided not to play) on to the player next to them. This goes around and around until all the cards have been played. After everything has been played you total up everyones points for the round and see who won. This is one of those games I break out when the other players are not regular gamers. It's easy enough to learn, and the theme is cute and... well... tasty. The rounds are short enough that people won't get bored, and since everyone is basically taking their turn at the exact same time there's no waiting around. I find this game is a bit chaotic for my strategic slow game preferences. Since everyone is playing at the same time it's difficult to base your play according to what everyone else is doing. It's also pretty hard to remember everything that is flying by as you pass the cards from person to person. I saw the maki roll last time, but now it's, gone? Or it just hasn't come back yet? Glance at the table to see if someone played it... by then you're almost holding up the game! This quick speedy aspect is also what makes the game fun, so probably shouldn't complain much there. Only other personal gripe I have with the game is that while play is super fast paced and frantic, scoring each round takes a second. There are multipliers and each card type has a different way of being scored, so you can't just look at everyones play area and quickly determine who won the round. Good times though! Lots of laughs and great for new gaming groups. Plays well with 4 players so if your'e a pair of couples it's a great game to break out. The metal tin is quality as well!

Fun, Quick Game
This game is a fast and fun game for all ages. My most recent game involved a 21 year old(me), 19 year old, 12 year old, 9 year old, and a 5 year old. The 5 year old understood the base game mechanics, but didn’t really care for the scoring as long as he was included in the game lol. Everyone else understood after I gave a short 10 minute explanation. Everyone had fun! It’s rare that I can find a game that everyone is able to understand, play, and also have fun. This game is a ~15 minute card game that plays in three rounds. Each player starts the round with an amount of cards that depends on the amount of players. Each player will pick one card from their hand to save and pass the rest of the hand over to the player on the left. After rotating hands a few times, everyone will be out of cards to play and figure out the amount of points they’ve gathered from the different card combos. The goal is to have the most total points at the end of the three rounds. The game plays very quick but not rushed. Even though it’s a quick game, it’s still at a nice pace and this aspect was important in my decision to get this game! The art is very appealing because it’s simple yet nice to look at. There is another version of this game Sushi Go! Party, which I would recommend if you are playing with more than 5 people(max for this game) and are looking for a bit more complexity. I haven’t personally played it, but I gathered that the general consensus is that the Party version is better.

Finally! A challenging game that I enjoy playing with my 6 year old.
My 6 year old loves games, he practically begs me to play a board game with him every night. Up until this point we've been playing candy land (groan), and Chutes and ladders (kill me now). The games I enjoy like Ticket to Ride and King of New York are really fun but the rules are just too complex for him. He's just learning to read and can read single words and very basic sentences. This game was suggested to me by a friend with kids that owns a couple hundred games. It was super cheap so I decided to give it a go. We've only played 1 time and he's already getting the strategy of the game. The words in the game revolve around sushi (sashimi, nigiri, wasabi, etc...) so they weren't easy for him to read at first but there are only about 10 distinct cards so he was able to learn the pictures. The rules of the game are easy for an adult to grasp but a little challenging for a 6 year old at first. I had to give him a lot of hints and helped him throughout the first game we played. The basic idea of the game is to gather the most points by putting sushi cards together. Putting Nigiri on top of Wasabi gets a certain amount of points, chopsticks let you select 2 cards, whoever gets the most pudding at the end of the game gets 6 points, etc... Each play you get to keep a card from your hand and then you have to pass the hand to another person playing so that they can pick a card. There's a decent amount of strategy to it and thinking ahead required. The game supports up to 5 players at the same time. Overall I highly recommend this card game if you you have kids that like board games and want to play with the adults. It's a little challenging at first but it's a lot of fun and I think most kids in the 6-10 range will be able to pick it up pretty easily. The best thing about this game is that it's also fun for adults. I could play it with my friends on a random Saturday night and we'd have fun with it as well. I'm very happy we found this.
