Bachmann Trains - LARGE SCALE POWER PACK w/SPEED CONTROLLER (not DCC compatible) - For Use With Large Scale Trains

The product is great delivery was ahead of schedule couldn’t ask for anything more

I bought this to replace an old Bachman power supply for an old "HO" Train. It is a very simple but well made power supply and speed controller. I'd rather both pieces be in one case, but this works just fine.

Initial product reciept and review (12/18/2017): So far, NOT HAPPY with this product! I bought this to replace a 20 y.o. controller that came with my Bachmann BIG Hauler (G Scale) "Royal Blue* train set that many years ago. It was old and finally just stopped working so I felt it was time for an upgrade. This new controller "seems" nice and has a smooth action on the knob but when hooked to the track and turned; I got NOTHING! I am a 20+ year electronics technician so immediately started to troubleshoot it. What I found is that the wire to the track had ZERO power out and NO continuity to either pin that plugs into the contacts that connect to the track! Being that Bachmann is using a 3.5 mm plug, thrse dsys, to make the power connection; I can not verify power out with out disassembling the box to find good multimeter contact points. This is really a moot point anyway, KNOWING the cable is bad. Add insult to injury, I would build a new cable to test, using my old cable, but the only Radio Shack within an 80 mile radius to my house CLOSED about 6 months ago and I have NO PLACE to source a 3.5 mm plug locally! As of right now, I HAVE AN UGLY $86 PAPER WEIGHT! I can fix it but should not have to, THE DAY I TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX! I tried to call Bachmann but got a "We're at lunch right now..." message "... call back." I would give less than a 1 star if I could because the product just isn't working. If I can get a replacement wire in an expedient manner; I will update this review accordingly. AS of RIGHT NOW I am $86 poorer and have a Train under my Christmas tree that does nor/Will not move, as a reminder of all of this. Revision/Update (12/21/2017): PHENOMENAL SERVICE; Especially for this time of year!!! I put in a replacement request, and between Amazon's ease of doing this, and the sellers expeditious shippment of the replacement i can EASILY update my rating feom a 1 to 4 star rating. I recieveid a defective item on a Monday , put the request for replacement on Tuesday and received the NEW controller that SAME WEEK (THURSDAY)! OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL AROUND! I would like to change the review to a 5 but in all reality I should not have had a defective controller to begin with and a small part of me is concerned about the longevity of this controller. Overall though I am VERY HAPPY with how this was handled and remedied@

Adequate function, not always reliable. Decent quality and value

It did what it was supposed to do and came on time

I thought I got a good deal, but the train transformer did not work. Had Amazon merely plugged it in once before reselling it, they would have seen that the device was not powering up at all. There is a small red light on the device that shows the device is working when it is plugged in. Had they spent less than a minute checking it out before reswelling it, they would not have sold it claiming it works like new.

Disappointed by that the unit was not clearly shown that the unit was 116volts, had to buy a step down transform 240volt to 116volt, result more money and I could have had the correct unit locally for what it cost in the end, without having to express deliver and time waiting
