Q: Will they install flush against a door jamb or do they need to be installed on a trim piece for clearance?

It's been awhile since I purchased these but as I recall you will need a little bit of trim...maybe 1/4" at minimum. I ended up not using them...too light weight. I think they are only good for small, light weight doors.

Q: Outside use? Anyone using these outside for a month or two? Just checking to see that they are not rusting due to poor quality?

They were not installed outside or installed indoors in a restaurant situation with constant humidity and lots of washing going on on two different types of swing doors no they did not rust in over two years

Q: can these be locked in the open position?

you can adjust the tension but it doesn't lock open. probably because they swing both ways. they are very nice though and will last you a very long time.

Q: what do you deduct from the actual opening when making doors for these??

They for a replacement. Notched it out already
