Keep It Pithy: Useful Observations in a Tough World

Got to share this with my Dad
I never thought I would be reading a book from Bill O'Reilly, nor writing a favorable review. I never liked the glimpses I saw of him (always accidentally) on television. He seemed too loud and obnoxious. And then I saw him being interviewed on CBS This Morning as a promotion for this book and found that I liked what he said. He was not loud and thoughtfully responded to questions. And his answers made sense. So I decided to get the book. What a delightful read! I didn't agree with some of his opinions, but I had a clear understanding of where he was "coming from". I liked it so much that I decided to get a paperback version for my father, whose views are very much like the views of Bill O'Reilly. Finally there was something I could share and enjoy politically with my father. And that is the main reason I will think of this book with fondness...

More common sense logic from a logical man
He makes sense. He's logical. He's a straightforward, honest man with clear definitions of right and wrong. He follows his own moral code. He believes the lack of honesty, logic, and morality by our political leaders can and will destroy our country if we don't vote with our brains. He believes that too many of us worship idiot, airhead celebrities that glorify promiscuity and drugs. He believes in personal responsibility, capitalism, and abhors the nanny state that our government is creating. And, he tells you so in concise, logical statements. No wonder the far left loons and the SPs hate him!If you're a conservative, you'll love the book. Get it and read it. If you a far left loon, you'll hate it precisely because it does make sense. Get the book anyway. If it doesn't change your mind (and you don't die from a stroke after reading it), then at least you'll have more to rant and rave about.

A re-run of the O'Reilly Factor
If you follow O'Reilly on TV this book will provide nothing new for you. It is mainly just a recap of a lot of Bill's thinking. However, for someone who does not follow him regularly, this book may give you a good insight into what he believes. He is a popular media figure and much of what he says you'll not hear from others in the news profession. It's good to get two sides of an issue and he certainly brings that forth. This book is very short. I think he could have given us lots more for the money. Nonetheless, it is an interesting look at many of today's issues from his point of view.

Great, quick read on common sense life lessons
I enjoyed this book, the audio CD version, very much and before I knew it, the book was over. However the amount of wisdom and good thoughts for living life and how to treat others was beneficial. It could have been longer but I actually think it was just the right length. You don't always have to agree politically with someone to enjoy their works (although I do align politically with O'Reilly fairly close as a moderate traditionalist) but this book isn't really about politics so much as common sense and how to live life and succeed. Great book, glad I read it and makes a fine addition to my library! Thanks Bill!

A Great Gift for the Conservative in Your Life
While I haven't read the book myself beyond a few pages, I'm giving it a good rating. It was a gift for my father, a life-long conservative, and I knew that he would enjoy reading anything by well-known and respected conservative Bill O'Reilly. Note: After I ordered the book, I discovered that it was in the large print version, which I hadn't realized when I ordered it. This was a plus since I'm sure my elderly dad will have an easier time reading it in that format.

Disappointing
I've taken to watching Bill O'Reilly's show on television often, and am somewhat impressed with his attitude and opinion in certain areas. Since I recently read Team of Rivals (about Lincoln), I wasn't in the mood to read his book on Lincoln and may yet get to read the Kennedy book. But hearing him -- and letter-writers he quotes -- talk about this book, and those who write in saying how much they liked this book, I bought it. Maybe the Kindle isn't good for this type of book, but it seemed to not be organized well. ALSO, there wasn't much new material. In much of this book, O'Reilly quotes himself, from previous writings. So though it has given me a somewhat deeper look into his thinking, I was not thrilled with this and can't say I found one thing memorable -- which, after all, is why I read. I also thought the price was high for not much original content. I will still watch his show, however, and may read a future book/s by him, or even one he's already written.

Not great but worth the read
Not as good as his original content but that is expected when a book is a collection of past stuff. Still, I read all of O'Reilly's books when they come out. I don't always agree with Bill, but he always gives a reason why he says what he says. That is better than many people today.Finished the book in one night partly because he always has an entertainng read and partly because the book was shorter that I was expecting.

A great book to read to your young children again and again so when they reach adult years there will be no questions of conduct
I had parents who could have made life really easy for my brother and I, but they instead made us work for everything we wanted. Both our parents worked and also tried to run a 92 acre farm. They both had a strong work ethic, in fact my father would create work just to keep from having an idle moment. Those same ethics we passed on to our children and we see them being passed to our grandchildren. Some where, someone in a family must stand up for these ethics and morals else the chain of mediocrity and "give me" will never cease.

Pithy yet disappointing
Although we've read several of the authors books, including the brilliant Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy, we were disappointed with this one. There was quite a bit of repetition lifted from other publications and/or interviews. Nonetheless, like most of Mr. O'Reilly's writings, it stayed true to its title. We enjoy watching this author and would categorize most of what we've read in the past in the "I Loved It" category. This one, however, at least for us, fell short of the mark.

A great read
My wife bought "Keep it Pithy" for me as I enjoy watching Bill O'Reilly on Fox News. She knew I wanted this book and surprised me with it. I read it in a day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting, enlightening and smusing.
