I use this to style my quiff hair. I towel dry, then apply this, then use the blow dryer. After my hair is dry and set, I use a basic hair spray to set in place. This is the best that I know of to define my hair and get volume. Coupled with a good hair blow dryer, this is the best. I have thin hair and yet this gets just the right lift, while not looking wet. It looks natural. It isn't the strongest, it isn't wax, and does not hold super firm. It keeps your hair fairly natural, and even running your hand through your hair feels good. If there's any criticism I have, it's that you have to work the paste into your hand until you can barely see it. Then put it in your hair. Failure to do this may leave white streaks in your hair. Oh, and, availability for this has been spotty as of late. Don't wait too long to pull the trigger on this if it's in stock.

A bit of context: I have what is more or less an undercut - pretty short on the sides (size 1 or under clipper usually) and a bit longer on top (1-1.5"). I usually cut my own hair or have a friend cut it for me so I'm not sure on specifics. This product is exactly as it claims - low shine, medium hold. It's very workable even throughout the day which I appreciate a lot. Doesn't make my hair look greasy, and it feels as good as you can hope hair with product in it will feel. The smell is incredible, too! I haven't used it for awhile as I've since adopted nopoo and had no need for it, but whenever I do end up washing my hair I'll usually use this for about a week after until the oils in my hair build back up. I almost miss having my hair smell so wonderfully. Great product, will absolutely use and recommend to all friends.

I have been using Defining Paste since high school and it seems like it gets cheaper and cheaper every time I go to buy more. Many times due to the recommendation of a barber or friend I have tried other brands as well as other types of Crew, my hair is a dynamic entity that can be tamed by no amount of product, each day a little different than the last. Monday pomade works best, Tuesday its Fiber, Wednesday... WHO KNOWS!? Day in and day out regardless of the venue or event I am attending Crew Defining Paste is my go to option. Regardless of where I travel in or out of the country you will not find me without a puck full of the Paste. While I still keep another brand on hand just to see if a challenger can dethrone the king, Defining Paste is the product I would recommend to anyone 10/10 times. Very easy to work into moist but not wet hair. Once it settles you can run your fingers through it all day without issue and it typically holds in place fairly well. This allows me the hairstyle that I am looking for which is clean, but not too flashy. Smell good too.

This is a great product for thinning hair. Works great.

Been using this product for a few years. As a guy who doesn't like to spend more than 26 seconds on his hair each morning, this product is perfect. A small portion rubbed into the tips of my fingers and applied to my hair with a little bit of arranging my hair just so is all it takes to set me up for the day!

Got it and it was apparently old. I have been using this for years and this one had a skin on it- like pudding. Brushed my finger to take some and none came out. Returned. I think I will be going to ulta for my defining paste

I blow dry my hair bone dry, and then use the defining paste (matte, and holds good with just a tiny spritz of hairspray). I also have some left over forming cream, and it works really well too, just gives the hair a shinier look. For me, that shinier look is nice if I'm going to a wedding, or dressing up...that sort of thing. I blowdry the hair in the front up, blow dry the rest totally dry, put some defining paste in my palm, rub my hands together vigorously and warm it up, and then work it into my hair. I love the way the defining paste smells, matte looks nice, and it's super easy to get that messy but controlled look. I have slightly wavy hair, not stick straight or curly. I get it cut pretty short (an inch or so), and then let it grow out to about two inches before I get it cut. That's about 2 months of growth, and this product works good the entire time. Experiment and have fun, but I personally think the Defining Paste is awesome for matte, and forming cream if you want a little bit of shine (but it's harder to work into your bone dry hair, and doesn't smell as good).

Früher habe ich immer irgendein 3-Wetter-Taft-Haargel (und Konsorten genutzt), bis mir meine Friseurin dieses Produkt vorgeschlagen hat. Ich war offen gestanden sehr skeptisch, da diese kleine Dose schon viel Geld kostet. Aber ich habe es gewagt. Ich habe eine typische Männer-Kurzhaar-Frisur, welche einmal im Monat rundherum auf 12 mm angepasst wird. Oben wird entsprechend langgelassen, sodass man noch etwas zum stylen hat. Mein Profilbild lässt u.U. erahnen, wie mein Schnitt ist. Genau für diesen Schnitt nutze ich die Defining Paste. Dabei wird nur ein bisschen auf die Kuppe meines Zeigefingers raufgemacht und dann in beiden Händen so sehr verrieben, bis es verschwunden ist und die Hände vom Reiben warm sind. Nun kann ich damit durchs Haar fahren und meine Frisur so zurecht stylen, wie ich es für richtig halte. Die VORTEILE dieses Produktes überwiegen dabei so stark, so dass der hohe Kaufpreis zu vernachlässigen ist: 1. Dieses Produkt verklebt nicht die Haare. Das Haar sieht dabei ganz natürlich aus, so als hätte man von Natur aus den hergeführten Style 2. Sollte mal das Haar durch Kapuze, durch Wind, durch Was-Auch-Immer durcheinander gebracht worden sein, dann lässt sich dies jederzeit schnell und einfach wieder herrichten durch das Durch-Die-Haare fahren. 3. Es hält bis zum nächsten Waschgang 4. Es ist UNGLAUBLICH ERGIEBIG! So eine Dose hält bei meiner Anwendungsart gute sechs Monate. Teilt man den Kaufpreis durch die Anzahl der Monate, so wird man feststellen, dass der Preis im Grunde gar nicht so hoch ist. FAZIT: Ich hoffe, dieses Produkt wird es so lange geben, so lange ich zum Haarestylen in der Lage bin. Es ist für mich als Mann das bisher beste Stylingprodukt. Wenn es nach mir ginge, dann auch gerne 10-Sterne. Denn selten hat mich ein Kosmetikartikel so sehr überzeugt, wie dieses.
