a simple, inexpensive, and effective solution
This is one of those product that gets a big thumbs up! I like things are simple, effective, and won't break the bank.It worked fine on a new Canon SL1, even with a screen protector already on the touchscreen! (I know -what was I thinking?) But it works great! The magnetic attachment is ingenious and allows the eyepiece and cup to be quickly attached and unattached without much fuss. It also has a nice neck-strap to keep always handy. (It can be easily detached, if not need --nice touch.)The magnification is perfect for manual focusing when shooting video, and almost essential when shooting with a short depth of field. (Fortunately, Canons like the SL1 has a 5x and 10x magnification in LiveView which make this practical.)Important note: this unit does NOT have a diopter, however there is a cheap and easy fix! READ ON:If your eyes are less than perfect (like mine) and you have trouble focusing through the eyepiece, you have two choices. (1) get a similar eyepiece with a diopter that costs several hundred dollars, or (2) spend a $1.50 a get a nice pair of reading glass (1.50, for example) and use these with the eyepiece. Works great!

Does not fit due to wrong mounting plate
Product arrived and I can't even use this. It was supposed to come with an adhesive mounting plate, it did not have this. It only had a mounting plate that attaches to the camera at the tripod mount. I have a smaller camera and this mount does not work which is why I chose one with an adhesive mount. I will be returning the item due to the discrepancy.

A great low budget alternative
First of all I am speaking of this product based on my experience using it for the T2i. I do not guarantee the same results for the 5D, 7D, T3i or any other Canon DSLR although I'm pretty sure it would work all as well.I am very big on saving as much as I can on my camera accessories that I cannot justify being as expensive as certain name brands. This Cowboy Studio LCD viewfinder is definitely an accessory that is essential for pulling focus when shooting video, especially outside. It works extremely well especially considering the cost compared to more expensive name brands. It does precisely what it needs to do; block out sun light so you can see your screen in bright situations and outdoors, and it magnifies the image on the LCD to make pulling focus MUCH easier. Those of you that have experience shooting video on Canon DSLRs without an external monitor or Viewfinder know that the image may appear in focus and sharp in the little 3x2 inch screen, but when you view the footage on a computer/television screen, focus issues become more prevalent. With the view finder magnification, it makes for much more precise focusing. Some specific things about this product:1 - The metal frame that attaches to the camera body did not have the circular tab on the upper right corner as it said it would... It was on the upper left corner (or lower right if flipped upside down). I stuck it on my T2i with the circular tab on the lower right corner instead of upper left because if it was on the left side of the camera the tab would be hanging slightly off the flat surface of the screen. With it on the lower right corner, it sits right next to the preview (play) button. As far as I know the location of the tab really doesn't matter otherwise. The frame does, in fact, fit on the T2i screen. For those of you that are skeptical of how strong the magnets will hold the Viewfinder, or how sticky the adhesive on the frame is, rest assured, it is quite secure. Just follow the instructions on the box for applying the metal frame and you should have no problems.2 - The inside actual viewfinder piece has felt material along the edges. The felt can sort of appear like little hairs when looked through the viewfinder on the edges. It isn't in the way of any aspect ratio, but it didn't make sense to me that they would have a felt material inside. I assume it will also make stubborn dust hard to clean out. Keep it in a closed case when not in use to prevent as much dust and particles from getting in. Another note about the viewfinder is the top and bottom edges of the viewfinder (the bottom more-so than the top) appear to sort of 'bow inwards' opposed to being perfectly straight and parallel. It doesn't really bow inward much and has 0 effect on the image you are seeing inside... In fact, I'm not sure if thats not just the way all other viewfinders are? I'm just trying to point any extremely small details that someone very picky might also pick up on and like to be aware of.Overall, this product is well worth $30.00. You are saving a ton of money compared to some other expensive brands and it literally does the same job quite effectively. I would recommend this product especially to anyone who is trying to save some money on their accessories.if you have any specific questions about the view finder, feel free to e-mail [email protected]

mixed feelings about this viewfinder
I purchased this viewfinder to help me use my Canon 3Ti for shooting video. I have purchased a few items from Cowboy studios and have found them to be good products at a fair price. This viewfinder has its pros and cons as follows:Pros: It is constructed well. The attachment to the camera is solid and the eyepiece makes your camera feel more stable when pressed against your face. The magnification is such that your screen fills your view and you can see the details of what you are filming much better.Cons: I use reading glasses to view things close up and using this eyepiece without them causes you to incorrectly manual focus on your subject. (If you use auto focus your cameras mic will record the focusing motors movements) It will look in focus to you because the eyepiece lens is correcting your vision. I must use my reading glasses to get the correct focus which causes the eyecup to not fit my face as it shouldThis viewfinder would be a much better product if the magnifying lens were adjustable to compensate for those who wear glasses

came in broken
This is close to a more expensive brand but not quite as good. The glass piece was completely off when it arrived. I have to give kudos to the seller as they handled the problem well. I just emailed them a photo of the condition it came in and they gave a prompt refund. I think it would have been ok if it were packed better.

For the price, a very good DSLR viewfinder
There are tons of DSLR viewfinders but this inexpensive one does exactly what I need it to do. The magnetic frame stuck right onto my Canon T3i's LCD, and once you attach the viewfinder, it holds on very nicely, and taking it off is easy as well. The only downside is that the magnetic frame is pretty much permanent, so you want to be very precise in how you install it (you dont want to install it crooked). It magnifies the image and it gives you that critical view of your image that you really need to be able to properly check focus, exposure, amount of noise, etc.. The focus of the piece is not adjustable for people who wear glasses, so that is a downside. However, if you don't wear glasses, this viewfinder does a very good job at letting you really see the image you're recording, rather than from a tiny LCD screen.
