Excellent Introduction to the Game of Go.
This is a book that is written for the beginner Go player. It moves pretty quickly, covers the basics well, and provides the reader with a lot to think about. It helps to have a board and pieces handy to help study positions and get a good feel for the board state as it develops.

Does the job.
My first Go book, bought after consideration of multiple books online. The decision was made based on its reputation and availability in Kindle format. There are better intro Go books out there, but not for Kindle.I am 100% satisfied with the material, but it loses one star on presentation. In places the diagrams are too far away from the text discussing them and the Table of Contents is completely useless. What do I mean useless? This is the table of contents:1. Chapter One .... page XX2. Chapter Two .... page XX3. Chapter Three ... page XXMind you the chapters themselves DO have names! It's just that whoever edited this Kindle conversion did not see fit to include them there they are most needed - in the TOC!Baffling that some people haven't figured out workable eBook formats in 2013, but there you go!

Even better the second time through
Even better the second time through! As a beginner with no play experience of any kind, I read through it quickly but I was not following most of the reasoning. However, now that the computer resigns to me some of the time (with handicap, of course) I picked the book up again and it means so much more to me, now. Awesome! I had forgotten that the author said to only read so far, go play (lose a 100 games?), then come back. He was so right!I really like the format of following different levels of games from opening to scoring with detailed explanations of each move, even with variations.Anyone learning Go will want more than one beginning book as they seem to present the material in different ways and stress different aspects of the game.I highly recommend 'Go! More Than a Game' be one of them!

Excellent point of view regarding a complex game with simple rules.
I've read several books on Go over the years, and this one didn't disappoint. The historical point of view is always interesting for such a classic game, and the points of view on playing are clear (even if I'm not that good at implementing them). I prefer this book to another I've bought in the past as gifts for friends, and will likely be sending this one in future.

TEN STARS
I am a perpetulal novice, trying to play GO for at least 35 years. This book is the first explanation that has made any sense to me. The illustrations step through a game one stone at a time. I am able follow the games on my GO board so it is like having a tutor in the room with me.Aside from giving me hope for my own pathetic GO game, this book provides an excellent example of how to explain any subject. Anyone who is trying to teach (such as home schoolers) should study this book for ideas on how to present a subject that demands logic (math!).

Learn to Play "GO" well
For a book that sets out to help you learn how to play the game of GO it does a good job of giving you a solid introduction and then a clear and concise explanation of the rules. It has great advance for us beginners. Start with the 9" board and just start playing and see how you do. The more you play the quicker you will learn and master the concepts. Then go back to the book and read further to get more complex concepts for how to strategize and win. This book is a winner!

Excellent for a beginner
I'm entirely new to Go, and found this book to be very helpful. He goes through a lot of examples in a helpful way -- there's a logical progression, and the approach is almost inductive in that you're allowed to figure things out for yourself. (There are also helpful explanations.) There are occasional comments about Eastern philosophy—these are mentioned prominently in other reviews, but what's there is (in my opinion) neither particularly relevant nor particularly harmful.
