AIRPLANE!: The persons and events in this film are fictitious - fortunately! A masterpiece of off-the-wall comedy, Airplane! Features Robert Hays as an ex-fighter pilot forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning; Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend/stewardess/co-pilot; and a cast of all-stars including Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar... and more. Their hilarious high jinks spoof airplane disaster flicks, religious zealots, television commercials, romantic love... The list whirls by in rapid succession. And the story races from one moment of zany fun to the next. AIRPLANE II: THE SEQUEL: There's a mad bomber on board, the first lunar shuttle is about to self-destruct, the engines are not working, and - worst of all - the flight crew discovers they are completely out of coffee! It's the high flying lunacy of Airplane! #all over again as Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty fly totally out of the ozone to recreate their hilarious original roles. The crew of crazies include Peter Graves, Lloyd Bridges, William Shatner, Chad Everett, Sonny Bono, Raymond Burr and many others. Can Hays save the day again - without caffeine? Fasten you seatbelts for a ride you'll never forget - Airplane II: The Sequel. (English) Review: Airplane! - A Comedy Classic - Airplane! is one of the best comedies of all-time. This Blu-ray transfer looks great and I found myself noticing a lot of things in the background that I'd never noticed before on other watches. Both of the movies look great and star the same 2 main characters played by Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty. If you're like me and you're too young to know who they are otherwise, they're Ted & Elaine on both journeys. In the first film, there's a relentless onslaught of jokes. To me, the majority hit still to this day, and of course it becomes obvious how much humor there is the more you watch it. There's also an extended cameo by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar which is really funny as a basketball fan, and even the great talent Leslie Nielsen plays the Doctor charged with saving the flight mid-way through the film. Overall, this comedy classic holds as much potential for laughter as it did almost 40 years ago and it's amazingly rated PG. The second film is not so great, and almost tries way too hard to keep the pace of its predecessor. It does get some jokes right, some of which are repeats or rehashes of jokes from the first film. But many fall flat, and that leaves this movie feeling empty compared to the first. I'd recommend watching it once, but otherwise it's a hard pass. It's really funny to see the influence Star Wars and other science fiction stories had on this movie as it appears to be catering to a particular point in time during the 80s... Special features are slim, and only in the first film, but I do like the choices presented to you for commentary. There is a director's commentary which features Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker telling stories about the actors, creating their jokes, being on set, and much more. It's really quite a riot and by the end they've completely devolved into constant laughter. They state something at the end of the commentary about calling and giving it another go, and it seems they may have done so via the Long Haul Version which is the feature film spliced with interviews from them and other cast members. Additionally, there is a trivia track that you can play along with the feature film as well, giving you three options in consuming relatively the same information about the behind the scenes of the movie. I did find my edition of this Blu-ray listed under Multi-Format at the time of review, which in my case did not include DVD or digital copies of either film. Whether or not intentional, this Blu-ray release is well worth the investment for new and old fans of Airplane! alike. I now plan on grabbing a copy of Zero Hour (frequently referenced by the directors in the commentary as an influence for this film) and giving that a spin. The case for this purchase came in excellent condition. No digital copy included. Review: Great dvd movie - I love this 2 movies they are supper funny and a great laugh

"Shirley" a seriously good deal - unless you picked the wrong week to stop ordering blu-rays!
Why so few reviews? Because we haven't stopped laughing yet! The original Airplane is still my favorite of the pair. This was the first big hit from the Zucker (x2) and Abrahams team that would continue to tickle our funny-bones into the nineties with genre homages like Top Secret, The Naked Gun, and Hot Shots. I think Hot Shots was where they finally managed to top the home run hit they scored with Airplane, but I enjoyed their other parodies too. Airplane is a send up of the classic airline disaster movies (such as The High and the Mighty and the Airport series). Along the way, other Hollywood classics and genres get the treatment as well (such as Saturday Night Fever). Airplane II then takes the airline disaster genre into "the future," with a space shuttle being the featured craft in jeopardy. Airplane is a mixture of movie buff in-jokes, razor sharp wit, goofy puns, and sight gags. What takes things over the top is the stellar cast that is involved in the shenanigans, including golden age Hollywood stars Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen who would go on to become gut-busting Zucker-Abrahams regulars. Also on board for Airplane are Robert Stack, Peter Graves, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Barbara Billingsley, of "Leave It To Beaver" fame, has a hilarious and unexpected cameo, and somehow California tax activist Howard Jarvis even makes it into the mix! Airplane II has similarly inspired casting, with Bridges and Graves returning, joined by Chuck Connors, Sony Bono, Raymond Burr, and John Vernon. Plus there's William Shatner who shows up as the perfect candidate to play the commander of a lunar base. The star-studded casts of both movies reflect how disaster movies of the seventies used a cavalcade of stars as a selling point. This is a welcome, bargain priced set for fans and newcomers alike. Here you get two hilarious movies on blu-ray for under ten bucks -- who can gripe about that? Perhaps only someone who hasn't gotten over Macho Grande... UPDATE: I eventually saw the movie Zero Hour, and was amazed how closely Airplane followed the story of that fifties film -- and directly incorporated its dialogue as well! If you are an Airplane fan, then Zero Hour is not to be missed, because it will bring to mind scenes and lines from Airplane as you watch it!

The first movies better than the second
You're getting this for an extremely reasonable price. The original airplane film of course is a classic and is absolutely hysterical the second one however is not nearly as funny a lot of the jokes were recycled. It was entertaining to watch but not as good as the first one. There really isn't any special features with the second film but there's plenty with the first, including turning on an option we're symbol pops up at the bottom of the screen you hit your button on the remote control and you see cast members talk about certain scenes as well as other things. Considering the price it's definitely worth it just for the first film.

I like all the old actors in these movies. The first movie didn't like as much. The second movie was much better not all the same actors in this one. A couple comedy movies.
