helpful tool for maintaining a healthy tank environment
I recently started using the API GH & KH Test Kit for my freshwater aquarium, and I must say it has been an incredibly helpful tool for maintaining a healthy tank environment. Here’s a detailed review based on my experience: **Ease of Use:** The test kit is very straightforward and user-friendly. The included instructions are clear and easy to follow, even for beginners. Testing both General Hardness (GH) and Carbonate Hardness (KH) takes just a few minutes, and the color changes in the water make it easy to get accurate results. **Accuracy:** The API test kit provides reliable and consistent readings. I compared the results with a digital meter, and they matched up perfectly. Knowing the GH and KH levels helps me adjust my water chemistry for optimal conditions, especially for sensitive fish like cichlids and shrimp. **Functionality:** Having a tool that measures both GH and KH in one kit is incredibly convenient. GH helps monitor essential minerals for fish health, while KH is crucial for stabilizing pH levels. This kit makes it easy to detect changes early, helping prevent pH swings or stress in my fish. **Value for Money:** For the price, you get a high-quality, reliable kit that will last quite a while. The included bottles have enough solution for numerous tests, making it a cost-effective option for regular water monitoring. **Overall Impressions:** The **API GH & KH Test Kit** is a must-have for any freshwater aquarium enthusiast. It’s easy to use, highly accurate, and helps ensure your water parameters are within the right range for your fish and plants to thrive. I highly recommend it for hobbyists of all experience levels. **Rating: 5/5** Reliable, accurate, and easy-to-use water testing for a healthy aquarium!

Definitely a need if you keep fish
Truly a necessity, I'm doing a fish in cycle and have had the tank going for about a week now and my ammonia just tested to around 4 (really bad), did a 70% change and got it down to 1-2 and will continue doing small changes until my tank is cycled. My fish and snail were acting perfectly normal too so it was definitely a surprise!

Great product, fantastic company!
This is about the easiest phosphate test kit I have ever used, and the company that makes them has really great customer service. One of the test tubes arrived broken (not a huge deal, there are two in the package) so I reached out to the customer service email to see if they had extras available for purchase. They took a while to get back to me, but were very apologetic about the wait and went above and beyond to make it right. They sent me a brand new test kit, and a hand-written note expressing their apologies for taking a few extra days to get back to me. I, myself, work in customer service, so I have pretty high standards for how I am treated as a customer. This company exceeded my expectations and then some, and the product they make is, in my humble opinion, one of the best available. I can't wait to try some of their other products, because I really do believe that if I ever have any issues they will be sure to make it right. I actually haven't really had issues with this phosphate test, it seems very accurate and the user experience is significantly better than competing tests. It's easy to read, with a nice, clear color card, and very clear instructions. A+ product, A+ customer experience. Well done!

DEFECTIVE PRODUCT
I've tested multiple tanks and tap water with this test kit. ALL READ THE SAME PH. (I have used other tests to verify the accuracy of this test....All my waters that I mentioned are different PH). the only reason I rate this 5 stars is so that hopefully it can be seen by others. If there was an option for 0 stars I would rate it as so. False testing. I have tried this brand before and never failed me. Funny when I order the product off amazon its either boof or broken somewhere. When I tried to get a refund or even replace it, its under a category that "isn't eligible for refund" What a great way to waste money. I will never be ordering any API liquid testing kits off of amazon ever again!!!

Highly recommended for keeping your fish happy all the time.
I'm using with the Ammonia Test Kit together with this. I did a deep research and found out this is better than the strip one. pros: Very accurate and easy to use. cons: I wish they make the "pH Down" solution bigger than "pH up" because usually we want the water to have lower pH level (depends on the fish type but, generally).

Excellent economical test kit with limited capability
I worked in three pet shops as a teen and later managed the salt water department in a very large pet shop in Philadelphia. I have kept fish since I was five years old but have been on hiatus for the past 20 years and not had any tanks. These kits have been around for ages and are very accurate if you use them for their true intended purpose; freshwater community tanks or similar. Don't try and use the nitrite or ammonia for saltwater tanks of any sort (even though the kits say the can do salt water, they don’t do it well). Don't use the pH test kit for tanks that need exact pH values for high pH animals like cichlids (though this is less of a problem if you read below). These tests are extremely economical and provide many more tests per dollar than any other kits available. My son is six and my daughter is four. We decided to raise tadpoles twice this year and needed to monitor ammonia, nitrite, and pH. The 40-ish year old design of these kits still fit that bill perfectly and were exactly what we needed. I wish the scale on the pH kit went higher, but it goes high enough for community fish. Tadpoles here tend to like higher pH values of ~8.2 and the pH kit doesn't go that high. However, I got a rough enough estimate if the pH test indicated that the pH was off the chart high as water isn't going to go much above 8.2 unless you use chemicals inappropriately to alter ph. Ammonia and nitrite test kits worked perfectly as in the past and averted many potential tadpole disasters and crying children. We've kept snails, clams, some minnows, and loads of plants in the tank while the tadpoles have developed so the bio load was always changing. Still great kits even after 40 years at a very affordable price. Highly recommended for their intended usage scenario.
